Equipment Services Technician

The Pond Guy

Equipment Services Technician

Do you enjoy working outdoors and taking pride in hands-on work? Are you mechanically inclined and energized by solving real-world problems in the field? Do you like working with equipment and making sure systems run safely and efficiently while helping customers find solutions?

If you're looking for a stable, year-round position where you can build technical skills and grow with a respected industry leader, we encourage you to apply.

We're looking for an Equipment Services Technician to support our field service team by helping install, maintain, and repair fountain and aeration systems while delivering outstanding service to our customers.

The Equipment Services Technician plays a key role in supporting field service operations by assisting with the installation, maintenance, and repair of fountain and aeration systems. Working alongside the service team, this position helps complete daily service routes, perform service calls, and ensure equipment operates safely, reliably, and efficiently.

This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and a customer-focused mindset. The Equipment Services Technician communicates with customers on site, maintains accurate service documentation, and follows proper equipment handling and safety procedures.

At The Pond Guy, we operate with a strong family dynamic that extends beyond our team and into every customer relationship. We take pride in treating customers like part of that family and hold ourselves to the highest standards of quality, professionalism, and care in every project we complete.

Here are some examples of the actual work your day would include.

  • Complete service calls for customers regarding their pond/lake equipment and assist with installations of complete systems
  • Support the scheduling and coordination of daily service routes while maintaining consistent communication with service office staff to optimize assignments based on urgency, efficiency, operational needs, and customer satisfaction
  • Provide clear communication with clients on pond status, maintenance, and service issues while assisting with solutions
  • Electronically complete service notes, including work orders/inventory used at visit, and communicate repair trends to quality and upper management
  • Stay current on industry standards and application methods to support the service department's reputation as the "Go To" name for pond services; participate in aquatic herbicide and algaecide application activities while ensuring regulatory compliance
  • Follow and help reinforce all safety procedures regarding product use, equipment installation and service, electrical practices, and safety devices
  • Assist in maintaining accurate documentation of work orders, inventory usage, and consumption
  • Assist with vehicle, equipment, inventory, and shop audits; ensure proper cleaning and storage procedures are followed before, during, and after routes; address and report any concerns
  • Support a continuous learning environment by being cross-trained and executing on all service-related positions
  • Maintain professionalism while representing The Pond Guy in the field and when interacting with customers
  • Support shop cleanliness and assist with grounds maintenance and general building upkeep as required

Job Requirements

  • 3-5 years of technical and mechanical maintenance experience
  • 2-3 years of customer service experience recommended; sales experience is a plus
  • Basic to intermediate electrical knowledge required, experience with high-voltage systems is a plus
  • Proficient computer skills required, including the ability to use service software and basic office programs
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license with a clean driving record; ability to drive a truck and trailer will be required after training
  • Experience operating heavy machinery a plus
  • Basic knowledge of pond management, fish health, and wildlife behaviors is a plus
  • Cross-train on pond management, including obtaining state certification as a chemical applicator
  • High School diploma required, college degree preferred

Because this position provides a variety of tasks, the physical requirements apply to both an in-office and in-the-field environment. This position also requires the ability to swim, manual dexterity for working with small components, ability to complete repetitive motions for long periods of time, bending, continual lifting, lowering and carrying packages that typically weigh 25 - 50 lbs. and managing packages up to 150 lbs. as well as standing/stooping for long periods of time. In the field, expect adverse weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, etc. for portions of the position that may be completed in these circumstances.

You bring a positive, solution driven attitude where "can't" and "impossible" simply are not part of your vocabulary. You confidently navigate complex information, make sound decisions, and deliver exceptional customer service without hesitation. Beyond managing the day-to-day operations, you continually look for ways to improve processes, strengthen your team, and add measurable value to the organization.

Availability

While this is a year-round position, during the months of April September, there will be extended work schedules, and you must be available to work between the hours of 7am and 6pm Monday-Friday.
