Overview Police Officer – Sierra Vista Police Department. Responsibilities Patrol the city and monitor traffic for potential violations. Prevent and investigate criminal activity, respond to alerts, and secure evidence at crime scenes. Make arrests or issue citations, and facilitate court prosecution by compiling detailed case files. Provide first aid and administer CPR when required. Participate in annual and ongoing police training, maintaining proficiency in all methods and procedures. Perform specialized duties such as School Resource Officer, K‑9 officer, motor unit, bike unit, tactical unit, firearms instructor, or community response team member. Represent the department as a spokesperson in community‑service activities. Document incidents, prepare reports, and maintain accurate records. Qualifications Minimum age 21 years at graduation from the police academy. United States citizenship. High school diploma or GED. Valid Arizona driver’s license at time of employment. Successful completion of an AZPOST physical examination and certification, including a medical evaluation. No felony convictions or violent misdemeanor convictions, and no dishonorable discharge from the Armed Forces. No marijuana use within the last 6 months and no recent use while employed or appointed as a peace officer. No controlling use of dangerous drugs (other than marijuana) within the past 7 years, and no sale or production of such substances. Capability to meet physical fitness standards: running, jumping, and apprehending suspects in adverse conditions. Availability for rotating shift schedules. Educational and Training Requirements Candidates without an associate degree or 60 college credits must attend an accredited Arizona peace‑officer academy that awards college credits, and upon graduation obtain a total of 60 college credits or an associate degree. Compensation Police Recruit hourly pay: $27.56. After completing the academy and a one‑year probationary period, officers are placed at the police officer pay scale, step 1. Additional Information Military joint‑service transcripts are accepted when referenced as L‑lower, U‑upper, or G‑graduate. Officers residing more than 30 miles from the city limits may not receive a city vehicle; within 30 miles a city vehicle is required unless otherwise approved. Testing and Selection Process Applicants will undergo written examination, physical fitness test, oral board interview, background investigation, psychological evaluation, polygraph screening, drug screening, and an AZPOST physical examination. Successful completion of each phase is required to advance; elimination at any stage results in a one‑year re‑application restriction. #J-18808-Ljbffr
