Position Description

The Payroll Manager is responsible for leading accurate, timely, and compliant payroll operations for a construction workforce, including hourly craft employees, and salaried staff. This role oversees full-cycle payroll processing, certified payroll reporting, payroll compliance, job cost labor allocation, payroll reconciliations, and collaboration with accounting, HR, and project operations teams.

Roles & Responsibilities

• Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.
• Detailed manager of the end-to-end payroll process including collecting, processing and inputting weekly payroll data for all employees.
• Maintains accurate employee records, including attendance, leaves and personal information.
• Collaborates with the human resources and the accounting departments to seamlessly integrate payroll and employee data, specifically updates for new hires, benefits, terminations, changes to pay rates, etc.
• Determines payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee federal and state income and social security taxes, and employer's social security, unemployment, etc.
• Files monthly, quarterly and annual payroll tax reports with Federal and State entities as required.
• Ensures accurate and timely payment of all employees via checks or direct deposit.
• As necessary, prepares reports for management by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and/or nontaxable wages.
• Balances the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies.
• Maintains payroll guidelines by writing and updating policies and procedures.
• Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.

Position Requirements

Required skills and qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, human resources or a related field.
• 3-5+ years of experience in payroll management or a similar accounting role.
• In-depth knowledge of payroll processes, labor laws, taxation and statutory compliance.
• Experience in handling payroll audits, inspections and compliance assessments.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in managing complex payroll calculation data.
• Knowledge of multi-state payroll processing and Indian tax regulations, including TDS, GST and income tax provisions.
• Advance Excel experience
• Experience with Vista by Viewpoint a plus.
