Role Description
Join the Search and Data Services team at Help Scout! Your work on this team will power critical search capabilities that our customers depend on every day. You’ll manage large, frequently changing datasets with thousands of transactions per second.
- Build coherent and usable interfaces.

- Empower over 12,000 businesses to provide excellent customer service.
- Support senior engineers on your team.
Qualifications
- Passionate Backend Engineer (Java/Kotlin; bonus points for full-stack experience).
- Ability to balance business goals with customer needs.
- Ownership of work across the full development lifecycle.
- Strong focus on production readiness, including automation, reliability, resilience, monitoring, alerting, and logging.
- Collaborative and supportive team member.
- Clear and confident communication in written and spoken English.
- At least 4 hours of overlap with Central European working hours.
Requirements
- Experience with Kotlin, Java, JavaScript, and PHP.
- Familiarity with Elasticsearch, ClickHouse, Kafka, Flink, RabbitMQ, MySQL, and PostgreSQL.
- Experience with AWS ecosystem.
- Ability to build new features and improve existing systems.
- Involvement in the development lifecycle, including design, implementation, testing strategies, and backlog prioritization.
