Clinical Nurse Job Summary The Clinical Nurse provides competent clinical nursing care consistent with professional standards. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, the Clinical Nurse is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care utilizing the nursing process in a hospital setting. Essential Duties Education: Identifies and meets personal learning needs. Attends education programs based on identified learning needs. Employs relevant patient education materials tailored to the patient population. Assesses the readiness to learn of the patient, family, and caregivers. Evaluates the developmental level of the patient and factors impacting their ability to learn. Evaluation of Care: Identifies expected patient outcomes. Seeks guidance in revising the plan of care as needed. Engages in discussions with interdisciplinary team members to evaluate patient care. Communicates relevant information to ensure continuity of care. Implementation: Demonstrates competence in caring for patients with complex problems, encompassing physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety aspects of care. Performs bedside point of care testing as required for patient care plans. Utilizes organizational and nursing standards, policies, and procedures in care delivery. Organizes and prioritizes care based on patient and family needs. Consults with appropriate resources regarding patients with complex care issues, unusual teaching needs, or those at high risk for discharge planning. Leadership: Collaborates with others to develop goals that promote professional growth or minimize limitations. Achieves goals and objectives within the specified time frame or renegotiates them with a supervisor. Facilitates intra- and interdepartmental collaboration. Participates in the development and achievement of unit goals and performance improvement initiatives. Effectively utilizes communication systems and promotes cost-effective care. Provides feedback to co-workers to enhance team performance. Stays informed about public policy and regulatory guidelines affecting the healthcare environment. Fosters a safe, clean, and secure environment for all. Patient Assessment: Recognizes and synthesizes complex data to determine care priorities. Integrates appropriate physical, psychosocial, educational, and safety needs in assessments. Anticipates discharge needs for individual patients and families. Develops relationships with families that empower them to advocate for their needs and those of the patient. Planning: Collaborates with patients and families to prepare or update the plan of care. Utilizes available multidisciplinary resources in care planning. Employs full communication strategies to convey planning information. Identifies and addresses cultural and ethnic considerations in patient care planning. Exhibits the ability to prioritize tasks for patients with complex issues. Research: Reads professional journals containing studies or articles relevant to practice. Presents ideas and questions to the team for assessment of applicability.
