Parent Educator
Provides information, support and home visitation services to parents to promote optimal developmental growth of their preschool age children. Essential functions include parent education through regular personal visits implementing the Born To Learn Curriculum Prenatal to 5 years, assessing family needs and providing developmentally appropriate information, guidance, and support to parents, preparing lesson plans and assisting with child developmental screenings, reviewing and analyzing data for program evaluation, completing and maintaining all documentation, screening summaries and essential records as required by the program in a timely and comprehensive manner, representing the District's Parents As Teachers program at various community events supporting families and children, coordinating services with other community programs offering services to parents and their young children, successfully completing the Born To Learn Institute offered by the SC Department of Education and acquiring certification as a parent educator, and maintaining certification as a parent educator by annually completing the required professional development hours. Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Coordinator of Early Childhood, Chief Instructional Services Officer, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.
Qualifications: College degree in early childhood education or a related field of study preferred. Demonstrate an appropriate level of knowledge about what promotes optimal parent-child interaction and infant/toddler development. Become qualified to administer developmental screenings. Experience: Minimum of three years supervised experience working with young children and their parents. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office software applications.
Physical demands include use of strength to lift items needed to perform the functions of the job, sitting, standing and walking for required periods of time, speaking and hearing, using close vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception along with the ability to focus vision, communicating effectively in English, using proper grammar and vocabulary, reaching with hands and arms and using hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, technology equipment, computers, and/or controls.
Workplace expectations include working effectively with and responding to diverse cultures or backgrounds, demonstrating professionalism and appropriate judgment in behavior, speech, and dress in a neat, clean and professional manner for the assignment and work setting, having regular and punctual attendance, following all District policies, work procedures, and reasonable requests by the proper authorities, and adhering to confidentiality as directed by Federal, State and Local Laws/Regulations; and in accordance with district administrative rules as it pertains to sensitive information, employee information and student information.
