Community Outreach Specialist/Coordinator

SUMMARY

The Community Media Outreach Specialist/Coordinator works under the direction of the Director of the Medina County Veterans Service Office (MCVSO). This is a front office, public‑facing position responsible for planning, producing, and supervising all media, communications, and outreach activities that represent the Medina County Veterans Service Office. They are MCVSO’s front‑facing communications and outreach lead, responsible for all media, public engagement, holistic programming, and volunteer coordination, while also serving as a secondary support to the Intake/Reception office. ***In Accordance with the Ohio Revised Code Title 59 the applicant must be a veteran or, if a qualified veteran is not available, the spouse, surviving spouse, child, or parent of a veteran.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Media, Communications, and Public Information Develop, write, design, and publish newsletters, press releases, brochures, flyers, and other communication materials. Manage and maintain all MCVSO social media platforms, ensuring timely, accurate, and mission‑aligned content. Ensure brand consistency, clarity, and compliance with county and state communication standards. Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and public information requests. Maintain communication channels with veterans, families, partner agencies, and the general public. 2. Outreach Coordination and Event Management Plan, organize, and supervise all outreach events, workshops, and community engagement activities. Coordinate logistics, scheduling, promotion, and on‑site execution of events. Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations, veteran groups, and service providers. Track outreach metrics, attendance, and program outcomes for reporting and evaluation. 3. Holistic Wellness Programming Coordinate and support holistic wellness programs such as yoga, tai chi, expressive arts, peer support groups, and other veteran‑focused activities. Recruit and manage instructors, facilitators, and partner organizations. Ensure programs are accessible, inclusive, and aligned with MCVSO’s mission of veteran wellness. 4. Volunteer Recruitment and Program Development Recruit, train, and supervise volunteers and community partners participating in veterans’ programs. Develop volunteer roles, schedules, and engagement strategies. Maintain volunteer records, training documentation, and compliance with county policies. Provide leadership and oversight for all volunteer‑driven outreach initiatives. 5. Front Office and Intake Support (Secondary Duties) Serve as a back‑up/assistant to the Intake/Reception office as needed. Provide customer service, initial client intake, and administrative support. Assist with front desk operations to ensure smooth daily functioning of the office. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all client interactions. Is familiar with and functions in accordance with the classification specifications and agency policies and procedures. Presents self in a professional and culturally sensitive manner to co‑workers, staff, other agency personnel and the public. Control correspondences; Returns phone calls and correspondence in a timely manner, adhering to agency policy and time frames. Has general knowledge of the co‑workers’ functions in‑order communicate with the appropriate department. Prepares reports and types letters as needed. Maintains database needed for reports and division statistics. Ability to accurately key a minimum of 40 words per minute. Excellent computer keyboard and database entry skills with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MUNIS etc. Ability to operate a variety of office equipment including, but not limited to, Xerox machines, fax machines, calculator, telephone, etc. Attends required meetings and training. Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to job duties Performs other duties as assigned.

ASSISTS WITH THE FOLLOWING

1. Plans, coordinates and manages outreach and public relations and programing for the office. Prepares flyers and correspondence directly related to outreach, including marketing material and newsletter.
2. Researches, reads and analyzes new material relevant to service programs and develops plans for the efficient and effective implementation and continuation of service within the office.
3. Performs administrative functions as necessary.
