Plumber, Pipefitter Journeyman

Amentum is seeking a Plumber/Pipefitter Journeyman for the North of Las Vegas, NV area . Overview Purpose and Scope: Provide plumbing and Liquid Fuels Maintenance for facilities and infrastructure. Assemble, install, troubleshoot, and repair pipes, fittings and fixtures of water and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes. Install and repair plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, garbage disposal units and dishwashers. Repair and maintain plumbing by replacing components in leaky faucets, mixing valves, check valves and both manual and automatic flushometers. Mends interior/exterior pipes (PVC, PEX, copper, asbestos cement, cast iron, galvanized, black iron) by soldering, clamps, threaded, push-to-connect and mechanical joint fittings. Open clogged drains using plungers, manual and power snake machines. Maintain all plumbing and pipe fitting systems to be operational according to the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC). Perform maintenance or repair of equipment and buildings. Requires government certifications for plumbing and liquid fuels maintenance. Essential Responsibilities Install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, repairs and modify liquid fuel storage, distribution, and dispensing systems. Plan piping/tubing system layouts, installations or repairs according to specifications. Modify, clean, and maintain pipe systems, units, fittings and related machines and equipment, following specifications using hand and power tools. Install, repair, maintain, and replace water/steam lines, valves, radiators, heaters, storage and condensate tanks, steam traps, control valves, fittings, expansion joints and steam pressure systems. Measure and mark pipes for cutting, threading and welding. Use tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders, benders, and welders. Bend pipe to required angle by pipe-bending machine or by hand. Read blueprints, drawings and specifications to determine layout of plumbing systems, water and waste distribution systems. Select and insert precut pieces of tubing, pipes and fittings; connect tubing/piping and fittings using solder, glue, torch to form sewer, drain, and water/steam lines. Remove and replace worn components. Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipelines using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods. Install/recondition small steam/hot water boilers and auxiliary equipment. Work with other trades to ensure specifications, procedures and safety policies are met; ensure water/steam systems and waste drains meet building codes and safety standards. Maintain records of time and materials; complete job orders. Follow safety guidelines, review THA prior to duties, and comply with Safety Data Sheets for hazardous materials. Perform work safely and with regard for the safety of self and others; comply with environmental permits and regulations. May require overtime; maintain good attendance. Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Journeyman: at least 2 years’ experience as a plumber through formal apprenticeship or 4 years (8000 hours) substantiated experience; a minimum of 5 years verifiable work experience is required. Willing to achieve government certifications. High school diploma or GED; valid driver’s license; normal color vision; ability to work at heights and in confined spaces. CPR/First-Aid Card and proficiency in CPR. Ability to research, specify, and order materials; ability to read blueprints, work orders, inspection reports and specifications; ability to weld, braze and solder. OSHA-10 Construction Industry; UA 21 (Carbon Steel) certification. Computer skills to include Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, Project. No rehires unless approved by local HR/LR and CE Manager. Eligibility to obtain and maintain government Top Secret security clearance (U.S. citizenship required). Pre-hire drug screen and Fit-for-Duty physical; ability to work in remote locations with limited medical facilities. Good listening, judgment, and ability to follow written and verbal instructions; punctuality and ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Preferred Qualifications Installation, operation and maintenance of hot water boilers up to 250 horsepower; operation of hot tapping machines and water leak detection machines. Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands Exposure to moving mechanical parts; occasional exposure to wet or humid conditions; high places; fumes or chemicals; extreme weather; risk of electrical shock. Moderate to loud environment. Walking, using hands, reaching, talking/hearing, tasting or smelling. Climbing ladders/scaffolding, standing, bending, and working in cramped spaces; lifting and carrying tools up to 50 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, and focus. Physical requirements include standing, walking, bending, climbing, overhead work, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Good vision and hearing; work inside and outside in various weather conditions; rapid temperature changes; hazards including gas fumes, falls, electrical shock, burns, cuts and bruises. May enter confined spaces; respirator use may be required.
