About This Job Location: Richmond, VA Department: Clinical Studies Schedule: Variable Clinical Status: Clinical Plus How You’ll Make an Impact As a Transplant Coordinator, you will provide input and facilitate donor referral, clinical management, and organ recovery processes to maximize transplantable organs and tissues. You will use critical‑care knowledge such as hemodynamic monitoring, ventilator management, and administration of critical‑care medications. You will complete medical and legal documentation of the organ recovery process and communicate with hospital development to ensure effective donor follow‑up. You will make appropriate decisions regarding the complexity of cases and elevate concerns when needed. What You’ll Do Clinical Assessment: Evaluate referrals for organ and tissue donor suitability based on LNH, OPTN/UNOS, AOPO, CDC guidelines and other regulatory requirements. Ensure donated organs are allocated efficiently and timely in accordance with National policies. Clinical Evaluation: Handle all aspects of donor evaluation and physiologic management, including review of medical and social history, assessment of hemodynamic stability, implementation of optimization strategies, and knowledge of brain‑death pathophysiology. Identify organ‑ and tissue‑specific and behavioral risk factors using all available resources. Clinical Management: Preserve organs and tissue to maintain maximum viability. Provide next‑of‑kin options for donation with sensitivity and compassion. Coordinate all cases between LifeNet Health and transplant centers, communicate and lead with coworkers, physicians, and hospital staff, and maintain confidential records. Complete donor EMR records promptly and accurately per LNH SOP. Training & Mentoring: Provide work direction, coaching, and mentoring in clinical competencies. Serve as preceptor for new staff and model proactive professional nursing through conduct, communication, respect, leadership, ethical decision‑making, critical thinking, and problem‑solving. What You’ll Bring Minimum Requirements: Associate Degree in Nursing Two (2) years of critical‑care experience in Medical, Surgical Trauma, Thoracic, Cardiovascular, Cardiac, Pediatric, or ER settings Two (2) years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) Valid State Driver’s License Valid RN license in good standing with the issuing state board, maintained throughout tenure Preferred Experience / Skills / Certifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator Certification Four (4) years of critical‑care experience in the same arenas as above Four (4) years of clinical experience as an RN Key Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Psychological Skills: Manage stressful situations, complex clinical scenarios, and family dynamics. Experience in medical compliance and data sharing preferred. Proficient in MS Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook). Knowledge of grief/family counseling or bereavement services preferred. Attention to Detail: Perform tasks thoroughly, check work for accuracy, and deliver on time. Business Acumen: Work independently with deep knowledge of anatomy and physiology and communicate these insights. Communication: Collaborate verbally and in writing, build relationships across all professional levels, and present to diverse audiences. Time Management & Multitasking: Prioritize multiple, competing, time‑sensitive projects and manage workload, identifying interdependencies and risks. Critical Thinking: Make independent decisions regarding medical management of organ donors, staff triage, logistical arrangements, and organ allocation. Logical Analysis: Think step‑by‑step to solve problems and look beyond obvious solutions. Teamwork: Collaborate and work as part of a team to resolve issues, complete tasks, and meet business needs. Compensation Salary Range: $75,841 – $101,121* Final compensation will be based on geographic location, qualifications, and prior experience.
