JOB TITLE: Preschool & After-School Program Assistant

EMPLOYER: Martin Luther King Community Center

DEPARTMENT: Education

REPORTS TO:  Director of Education

Hours: 40 hours per week 

Schedule: Float position – Monday through Friday (Hours will vary between our different Education Programs – Education Programs operate between 8:00 am and 6:00 pm daily)

Pay: $19.00/hour

FLOAT POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This is a full-time float position. In this role, the employee will not be permanently assigned to either the Preschool or the Afterschool program but will move between the programs and the tasks associated with either role. The purpose of the position is to provide coverage and assistance where it is needed most. This position requires that the employee is very flexible in their hours and possesses the skills necessary to perform a variety of different job duties within the Education Department programs.

SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for supporting the Lead Preschool Teachers and/or the After School Program Coordinator as well as the Director of Education by helping to create a caring and safe environment for the children and assisting in activities to improve the overall care and quality of education; assisting the staff in implementing a quality educational program and in developing positive relationships with the children and their parents; observing and documenting children’s interest and progress, and relays that information back to staff; implementing developmentally appropriate activities based on children’s interests and needs under the direction of the Teacher and the Director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assists in the implementation of Preschool and After School activities and encourages participation by
• Supports After School students in academic subjects such as reading, writing, math, and other areas.
• Actively engages in activities; manages cleanliness, maintenance, and availability of classroom materials.
• Encourages self-help and good hygiene through behavior
• Helps ensure smooth, daily transition from home to childcare center and from school to after school program.
• Provides feedback regarding students' behavior and abilities to Lead Preschool Teachers and/or the After School Program Coordinator
• Follows all center policies and state
• Maintains personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality
• Performs other related duties as assigned by

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
