Front End Engineer

Role Description

We’re hiring a Senior Front End Engineer to own and elevate the interfaces that thousands of developers touch every day - the editor, the docs experience, and the interactive surfaces that make ReadMe feel alive. This role sits at the intersection of design, performance, and developer experience. You’ll shape not just how our product looks, but how it feels to use: fast, intuitive, and genuinely delightful. You won’t just be shipping components…you’ll help define what great frontend craft looks like at ReadMe.

What you'll do here

• Build amazing user experiences for new features and help re-imagine how our existing features live in today’s world.
• Work hand in hand with design and the rest of the team to create a product that feels good to our customers.
• Create new features to help customers create beautiful and effective docs.

• Experience building and shipping production frontend applications, with deep fluency in React and TypeScript.
• A track record of owning complex UI: adept at creating functional UIs that work well and not just assembling components from a design spec.
• Comfort working across the stack: comfortable collaborating effectively with backend and infra engineers, even if frontend is your home base.
• A user-first mindset: care about how something feels to use, not just whether it technically works, and can hold a high bar for polish and accessibility.

How you'll grow within one month...

• Ship a UI improvement and learn how we build, review, and deploy.
• Learn the codebase — our React/TypeScript apps, state management, and how data flows from server to client.
• Get to know your team and how you can help solve real customer problems.

Within a few months, you'll...

• Own meaningful frontend projects end to end, from scoping through to shipping.
• Make a meaningful impact on the product by improving performance, polish, or a core experience.

Within your first year, you'll...

• Help define the direction of our front end app tooling at ReadMe.
• Have shipped major improvements used by thousands of developers daily.
• Help shape how modern APIs are designed and consumed.

What's the hiring process like?

• Submit your resume and cover letter.
• 30-minute Zoom chat with one of our Engineering Managers.
• Second 30-minute Zoom interview with our VP of Engineering.
• Technical assessment with a couple of ReadMe engineers.
• Onsite interview conducted over Zoom, lasting 3.5 to 5 hours including a break.
• Feedback within a week and potential offer if it’s a good fit.
