Manager on Duty - Communications Control & Route Performance - Valley Metro

Qualifications Must have a valid license and the ability to obtain an AZ Commercial License with passenger endorsement. Over 21 years of age and possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Computer literate. Ability to work without direct supervision. Ability to read, write, and speak English. Ability to work flexible schedules that may include nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays. Ability to lead a large team. Ability to work in a union environment. Knowledge of data performance platforms such as Microsoft Power BI or Tableau. Knowledge of Computer Aided Dispatching Systems (CAD) such as Clever Devices, Transit Master, Swiftly, or Orb Cad. Knowledge of labor relation skills and collective bargaining agreements. Minimum three (3) years of transit industry experience. Minimum two (2) years of transit dispatching experience using CAD systems. Responsibilities Ensure staff members assigned adhere to agency policies, procedures, and standards. Ensure service readiness with a goal of 100% on‑time pull‑outs and zero missed service. Lead daily huddles, ensuring 100% participation and fostering team building. Monitor support staff attendance and punctuality. Ensure Communications Controllers, Route Section Employees, and Road Supervision cover assigned territories at all times. Mandate that Communications Controllers respond to CAD System Events promptly and efficiently. Conduct weekly pull‑out and route checks on a regular basis. Conduct weekly leadership touchpoints with direct subordinates to ensure support, growth, and job familiarity. Provide new‑hire training to Communications Controllers and Route Section Employees. Collaborate with Communications Control and Workforce Planning to ensure smooth route detouring with minimal issues and full operational understanding. Collaborate with Safety Department and agency officials regarding route safety concerns, passenger concerns, and related matters. Prepare a weekly performance report PowerPoint presentation and present it to Senior Leadership. Provide recognition for employees with satisfactory performance records. Take proactive measures and follow through to address violations that are not in compliance with policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements. Conduct interviews and make recommendations for hiring new employees. Administer corrective action up to termination as required. Ensure exceptional network performance. Lead proactive incident response management as required. Foster a team environment aligned with Valley Metro's core values: Whatever It Takes, Team Player, Positive Customer Care. Perform other duties as assigned. Physical Demands and Work Environment Long periods (potentially exceeding 8 hours per day) of walking, standing, sitting, bending, pushing, pulling, climbing, lifting, balancing, stooping, twisting, squatting, handling materials, repetitive hand‑wrist motions, and traversing uneven surfaces. Exposure to both extreme heat and cold. Exposure to loud noises, fumes, and airborne particles. Operators/Drivers may work inside or outside vehicles and may operate vehicles for over 8 hours per day. Operations Supervisors and Managers may split their work between an office setting and active transit field locations driving in a vehicle. Maintenance Employees may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals in a ventilated maintenance shop and may work with personal computers, laptops, and other heavy machinery. Office Staff may work indoors in air‑conditioned or well‑ventilated facilities, including offices and cubicle spaces equipped with a telephone and computer.
