divh2Lifeguarding at the Y/h2pLifeguarding at the Y means keeping people safe while helping them learn skills and connect with each other./ppThe lifeguard is responsible for the safety of all patrons in and around the pool area./ppEssential functions include:/pulliServing as a role model to members and Y staff and living the mission, vision and values of the YMCA movement./liliEnsuring safety of all participants by following aquatics best practices./liliAdhering to and enforcing aquatic rules and procedures consistently and fairly./liliMaintaining constant surveillance of water and pool deck areas to incumbents lifeguard certification./liliWearing rescue pack and tube at all times while on duty./liliAttending monthly In-Service trainings./liliMaintaining cleanliness of pool area when not performing primary duties./liliAccurately recording and submitting incident reports as required./liliAdherence to all policies and procedures of the Ann Arbor YMCA./liliUnderstanding and following all safety rules and regulations including knowledge of emergency procedures and location of emergency equipment./liliReading and responding to all YMCA communications./li/ulpOur culture is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing and determined for all our staff, members, program participants and volunteers./ppMake this place your place for building a career with a purpose./ppQualifications include:/pulliMust be at least 15 years of age./liliPrior lifeguarding experience preferred./liliCurrent Lifeguarding, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, O2 and First Aid certifications is required./liliProficiency in swimming and safety skills is required./liliMust possess a cooperative spirit committed to character development by promoting and demonstrating caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to staff, lay leaders, YMCA members, program participants and the general public./liliAbility to relate with pool patrons in a positive manner./liliMust be professional, alert, courteous, and tactful./liliMust be mentally alert to dangerous situations in order to assure the safety of all staff and swimmers./li/ulpWorking conditions include:/polliPhysically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively. Physical mobility to properly use aquatic equipment to rescue a 200 lb. person./liliPhysically able to see, hear, and communicate clearly./liliAbility to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time./liliExposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids./liliMust be able to lift and carry food and supplies weighing up to 20 pounds./liliAbility to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time./liliPosition may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking./liliAbility to speak concisely and effectively communicate./liliVisual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency/li/ol/div
