Registered Dietitian

Inpatient Dietitian

Plans, develops, and provides diet interventions, medical nutrition therapy, nutrition care, and preventive counseling to individuals and groups. Services are provided in all areas of primary and specialty patient care, including acute care, skilled nursing, and out-patient settings. Responsible for providing medical nutrition therapy services and monitoring nutritional care for clients of all ages. Includes determination of nutritional status through assessment, individualized care plans, and provider order recommendations. Implements nutrition therapy, including diet modifications and oral nutrition supplements. Delivers education and counseling for disease and nutrition risk management. Evaluates outcomes of medical nutrition therapy interventions. Optimizes self-management education and skills for clients with chronic conditions. Recognizes and addresses nutritional needs accounting for cultural, ethnic, and religious beliefs. Evaluates treatments or procedures for effectiveness using an evidence-based approach. Works on nutrition care protocols and acts as a leader for the healthcare team in implementing nutrition therapies. Educates clients on diet according to their disease state, medical condition, and health risk factors. Requires a minimum of a bachelor's degree in dietetics or food and nutrition through an accredited program. Clinical nutrition experience through an approved coordinated undergraduate program or post-graduate internship is required. Currently holds a Registered Dietitian license within the applicable state(s).
