Description: The facility has 457 licensed beds. It operates as a Trauma Level III center. This is a teaching hospital recognized as a Chest Pain Center and a Stroke Center of Excellence. The average daily census in the department is 8 patients. Patient types and common diagnoses include chest pain, syncope, and angina. Required skills for the position include:

• General Med/Tele skillset
• Stroke experience
• Cardiac rhythm interpretation
• Trach care
• PIV starts
• Chest tube management
• NGT placement
• Drain/tube management including Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, and foley insertion/management
• PCA pump management
• Medication gtt management including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IVF

Support within the department consists of a supervisor and charge RN who may or may not have patients. A resource RN will assist with admissions and discharges. Hospitalist coverage is available 24/7, not dedicated to this unit. Phlebotomy efforts are combined between RNs and an IV team. The technology and equipment used includes EMR, IV pumps, and medication dispensing systems. Floating will occur within the region and scope of practice as needed. Weekend rotation requires working every other weekend. Travelers are expected to work 75% of holidays. Request time off is limited to 6 days, excluding holidays. Shift times are 0650-1910 or 1850-0710, with a schedule cycle every 6 weeks. The department promotes a great team environment and various team activities.
