Description

American Traveler is hiring a Night Shift RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position requiring an active AK RN license and at least 1 year of PCU/stepdown experience.

Details

• Stepdown unit from ICU serving a wide variety of patient populations across multiple disciplines
• Utilizes a Co-Care/Virtual Nursing Model with 1 bedside RN, 1 Virtual RN, and 1 CNA per patient
• Bedside RN patient ratio is 1:4, CNA ratio is 1:6
• Approximately 30% of patient population is cardiac (CHF, MI, s/p TAVR, MVR, pacemaker, arrhythmia, ACS, drug load patients)
• Also cares for respiratory patients (COVID, flu, COPD, asthma exacerbations, trach patients >24h post-placement, chronic home ventilator patients)
• Manages complex medical-surgical patients requiring higher-level monitoring (ETOH withdrawal, GIB, etc)
• Provides overflow coverage for neuro and renal patients
• Night shift schedule, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-7:30)
• Weekend coverage may be more frequent than every other weekend based on staffing needs
• No on-call requirement
• Floating required within scope to lower acuity units, renal care, neuro, and medical-surgical units
• Uses Epic for charting

Requirements

• Active AK RN license required, license pending accepted but must be in hand for auto offer
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
• Epic EMR experience required
• Skilled in respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP management, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy care
• Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, central and peripheral line care, and blood product administration
• Experience monitoring and managing cardiac dysrhythmias and telemetry (on-unit and remote)
• Experience with feeding tube care and wound care/wound vac management
• Full SSN and DOB required for consideration
• 2 professional references required, covering 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting

• Located in a Magnet-designated, Level II Trauma acute care hospital recognized as a USNWR Best Hospital in Alaska
• Scrubs provided by facility, free parking available
• Candidates must respond to a question regarding any prior employment history with Providence facilities as permanent, travel, or registry/per-diem staff
• Former permanent staff must wait at least 3 months before returning as a traveler and cannot be within 50 miles of the facility
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for travel rate; local candidates accepted at a lower bill rate
• Travelers may be required to float between sister facilities within the region, with refusal potentially resulting in termination of assignment
• All requested time off must be submitted upfront with the initial submission, as post-offer RTO requests may not be accommodated
• Candidates must commit to working 3 of 5 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, New Year's Day)
