Overview

Be part of the nation's only repository for the disposal of nuclear waste known as Transuranic (TRU) waste.

Salado Isolation Mining Contractors, LLC (SIMCO), managing and operating contractor of the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is currently seeking a qualified individual to serve as a Quality Assurance Technician - Trainee and join our team located in Carlsbad, New Mexico.

This is a USW bargaining unit position. This position will be filled with SIMCO USW membership first in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement before any other candidate considerations.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will perform complex visual inspections and dimensional measurements and evaluate to acceptance criteria. Perform a variety of complex nondestructive inspections in accordance with procedures and evaluate results. Conduct/participate in assessment activities. Perform overviews to approved schedules documenting such activities. Perform receipt inspections for vendor supplied items obtained through the supply chain process. May conduct source inspections for site procured products as necessary. Travel will be required. Ability to meet site required vision requirements. Must be capable to perform inspections in unfavorable New Mexico weather. Must be capable to perform inspections on elevated platforms. Must be capable of transporting tools/equipment up to 40 pounds.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Graduate or Equivalency is required.

  • Documentation from previous employer or a training or educational institute that validates weld inspection training, experience, and dimensioning skills ability is required.

  • Previous experience in welding/weld inspection and dimensioning skills is required for non-USW members.

  • Must be 18 years of age.

  • Must be authorized to work and remain in the United States without SIMCO visa sponsorship now or in the future.

  • Must be able to obtain a Department of Energy badge for access to the WIPP Site (even if teleworking, must still be able to comply with security requirements to obtain a badge).

  • Non-U.S. citizens from countries identified by the Department of Energy as posing heightened security concerns-including sensitive countries, state sponsors of terrorism, countries of risk, and other designated countries -are subject to additional security requirements that limit site access.

Salary Range

Trainee pay rate is $36.86 per hour. After all standard qualifications have been met and are maintained, the rate of pay is $48.61 per hour per the CBA.
