Elementary Library Media Specialist
Design and utilize media, instructional design and development, selection and acquisition of materials, reference and bibliography, cataloging and classification of materials, children literature, educational use of computers and research as means of supporting the educational experience for students.

Qualifications
New Mexico Teaching License
Bachelor's Degree, including all courses needed to meet licensure requirements
Passage of Required State Licensure Testing or its equivalent
Passage of the New Mexico Assessment of Teacher Competency in Secondary Education
Passage of New Mexico Content Knowledge Assessment in Secondary Education
Must have a Library Media Specialist Endorsement
Valid Driver's License
Evidence of Leadership Ability
Demonstrate Communication Skills
Demonstrate Public Relations Skills
Must complete a finger-print background check

Experience in a Related Field
Familiarity and Experience with Follett Destiny

Essential Functions
Select order process and make available to students and teachers as wide a variety of materials as possible, such as; books, periodicals, filmstrips, videos, cassettes, cd's, computer software, curriculum prints, transparencies, models, vertical files and internet use.
Administer the use of audio visual equipment.
Maintain the AV equipment, maintain the proper inventory and make recommendations of such equipment to be repaired and purchased as necessary to the principal.
Provide direct library services to students at the school.
Select and chose appropriate story telling materials for Educational Assistants as necessary.
Provide teachers, upon prior request, the widest possible multimedia selection and assistance, to support lesson plans and projects.
Provide magazines, newspapers and internet access to students and staff.
Train and supervise the library educational assistant to ensure that their services are utilized to the maximum effectiveness.
Serve as a resource person in the teaching of library skills.
Inventory the collection once a year and remove or replace worn out or outdated material
Maintain an accurate inventory and records of library holdings.
Work with building principal at all time so that the library program is an integral part of the total school effort.
Participate in the general program of the school, both social and professional so that open lines of communication are maintained.
Develop and use instructional materials suitable for verbal and visual instruction of pupils with a wide range of mental, physical and emotional maturities.
Provide individual and group instruction as needed to inform students and staff of the function and options available in the library.
Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve effective participation in all activities without interfering with the natural informal atmosphere of the learning environment.
Create an effective environment of learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards and interest centers.
Maintain professional competence through participation in required in-service education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities.
Use technology as an instruction tool in the library where appropriate and model the use of technology for personal and professional task management.
Perform basic attendance accounting and business services as required.
Establish and maintain district standards as prescribed by board policies and district and school regulations.
Develop, implement and practice continual improvement practices at both the professional and student level.
Select and requisition books, instructional aids and instructional supplies and maintain an accurate inventory.
Insure a comfortable room environment through control of heating, cooling lighting and ventilation to the extent possible.
Perform supervisory duty as assigned before, during and after school.
Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs within the school or at the district level.
Assist administration in the budgetary process and needs for the library.
Follow and adhere to all district and school policies and regulations.
Treat people with dignity and respect.
Any and all other tasks as assigned by the Building Principal.
