Pay Range: 415 Hourly Rate: $23.66 - $36.62 FLSA Status: Non-Exempt The normal starting pay for this position is the minimum of the pay range listed above. A higher rate of pay may be considered, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the selected applicant and/or the City’s step placement policy.

ELIGIBILITY LIST PREFERENCE ORDER

Full-time City employees will receive preference in the following order: major division first, then department, then all other full-time City employees. Part-time/year-round City employees will receive preference next. If there are no qualified full-time City employees or part-time/year-round City employees, external applicants will then be considered (when the vacancy is open to external applicants).

POSITION DESIGNATIONS

This job classification has been designated as a safety sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019. This means employees in this job classification can be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even if they possess a medical marijuana license.

JOB SUMMARY

This posting will be used to fill a current vacancy in the Field Services Division of the Public Works Department within the City of Oklahoma City. An eligibility list will be established or supplemented for filling future vacancies per provisions of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Collective Bargaining Agreement. The Construction Inspector I inspects public construction projects to ensure work is completed according to City plans, specifications, and standards. The employee works with contractors, City staff, and the public to address construction-related issues and helps to ensure projects are completed safely, accurately, and in compliance with applicable requirements.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

* Conducting inspections of public construction projects, including buildings, paving, storm sewers, bridges, sanitary sewers, water lines, driveways, paving cuts, and repairs.
  • Recording inspection information and project-related data.
  • Interpreting and explaining construction plans and specifications related to
public sector construction projects. * Advising contractors, residents, and workers on issues related to construction projects to ensure compliance with construction plans and specifications. * Monitoring work performed and materials used on projects to ensure compliance with applicable standards and specifications. * Working on a semi-independent basis and referring unusual problems or situations to the assigned Chief Construction Inspector. * Following established policies and procedures while completing assigned inspections and related duties. * Performing other duties as assigned.

VETERANS PREFERENCE

Honorably discharged veterans of the United States Active Duty Armed Forces, National Guard, and Reserve Forces who are not currently employed full-time by the City of Oklahoma City and who meet the qualifications for the position shall be given preference. To receive preference, veterans must submit verification of honorable discharge from the United States military service (Department of Defense Form DD214 or NGB Form 22) prior to the closing date of the vacancy announcement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possession of a valid Driver License (Operator).
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in construction or a related industry.

  • Skill in applying construction experience to inspect, evaluate, and

* Ability to determine compliance of building construction with blueprints and written specifications. WORKING CONDITIONS

* Subject to working on ladders, scaffolding, or floors in high places and with no surrounding walls.

Note: Typical City employee working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, working hours vary (may require work to begin before 8:00 a.m. and/or end beyond 5:00 p.m., and/or may require work on weekends and holidays), and are subject to change, based on the duties and location of the position and the business needs of the assigned work unit/department.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Eye-hand-foot coordination.
  • Form perception.
  • Spatial perception.
  • Strength enough to lift, push, pull, and carry objects weighing up to 50
lbs., including items such as manhole covers. * Extend flexibility, mobility, and balance enough to bend, twist, and reach out when climbing or working from a ladder to test electrical connections. * Arm-hand steadiness, manual dexterity, and finger dexterity enough to use manual and power tools to remove panels, covers, etc. * Near vision enough to read blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, code books, equipment labels, etc. * Speech enough to communicate clearly and distinctly, and hearing enough to communicate in person, by telephone, and by two-way radio. Eligibility List: An eligibility list will be established from this posting consisting of applicants who receive a score of 70 percent or better. Multiple selection procedures may be utilized; a minimum of 70 percent or better will be required on each; and the results of multiple selection procedures will be equally weighted.
