Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.

Make an impact in the educational journey of students who are deaf or hard of hearing as a skilled Sign Language Interpreter or ASL Para in a supportive school environment. This contract-based opportunity involves working onsite, approximately 30 hours per week (6 hours per day), providing consistent communication access and support for young learners throughout the academic year.

Key Qualifications:

• Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL)
• Certification by the National Registry of Interpreters of the Deaf OR:
  • EIPA score of 4.0 or above, the ESSE-I/R, or NAD/ACCI assessment
  • Candidates with EIPA under 4.0 are welcome and will be referred to as ASL Paraprofessionals
• Experience with voice-to-sign and sign-to-voice interpreting in classroom settings desirable
• Ability to assist students in academic subjects (reading, writing, math) as well as life and vocational skills
• Comfortable working with both elementary and intermediate school students—preference honored when applying
• Professional, reliable, and collaborative attitude required

Position Responsibilities:

• Facilitate seamless communication between hard of hearing/deaf students, hearing peers, teachers, and school staff
• Provide accurate, ethical interpreting in both group and one-on-one contexts
• Support students academically and help foster their independence
• Monitor and assist during classroom, outdoor, and community activities
• Adapt interpreting style to meet individual student needs
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to established ethical standards
