In extreme situations, the unit may go to a 1:6 ratio. The patient population includes COPD, pneumonia, respiratory distress, and COVID-19. The unit has 48 beds total, with a staffing model including a team lead, respiratory therapists, and an assistant nurse manager on shift. Most patients experience COPD exacerbations, pneumonia, and acute respiratory failure. The nurses on the unit will care for ventilator patients, but no nurse will have more than one ventilated patient at a time. All candidates must be comfortable floating based on job descriptions with no restrictions. Travel pairs are allowed but must be submitted for and work on different units.
