Sr/Lead Java Software Engineer

Huxley is working with a Chicago-based trading technology startup that's hiring both a Senior Backend Engineer and a Lead/Principal Backend Engineer to help build and scale the systems that power trading, market data, clearing, and post-trade workflows.This is a hands-on role for strong Java engineers who enjoy solving complex problems, designing scalable systems, and owning projects from architecture through production. You'll be working on high-performance backend services that support real-time market data, exchange integrations, regulatory workflows, and trade processing.What they're looking for:Senior: 4+ years of backend engineering experienceLead/Principal: 8+ years of backend engineering experienceStrong Java and Spring Boot experienceExperience with APIs, distributed systems, messaging/event-driven architectures, and SQLAbility to translate business requirements into technical solutionsTrading, fintech, market data, or other high-throughput systems experience is a plusExperience with FIX, exchange connectivity, clearing, or risk systems is helpful but not requiredAbility to work onsite in Chicago's Loop 2-3 days per weekThe team values engineers who think beyond tickets, can navigate ambiguity, make sound architectural decisions, and take ownership of systems end-to-end.Please note: Candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Green Card holders.
