Grocery Department PositionThis position will provide quality customer service by keeping grocery items stocked throughout the grocery department. Proper performance of the duties and responsibilities of this position contributes to and ensures achievement of suitable shopping conditions.CompetenciesFriendlyGood customer service skillsBasic mathematical skillsGood communication and listening skillsAbility to follow directionAttention to detailAbility to lift (up to 50 lbs)Ability to stand for extended periods of timeAbility to stoop, bend and reach.EquipmentBox CutterPallet JackElectric Pallet Jack (if 18 years old)Baler (If 18 years old)Roll around ladderSafety RequirementsKnow and follow correct lifting proceduresBox cutters should be used with extreme cautionBalers should be operated by trained adult employees and safety guards should be checked frequentlyPallet jack should be operated by trained adult employeesEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesMust be able to work variable shiftsPerforms duties in a safe and efficient manner consistent with store safety policies and procedures.Assists customer when necessaryStocks grocery store items on shelf or storage area following proper procedures.Opens cartons and price items accurately and legibly; keep store management informed of pricing problems or discrepanciesPresents (face) all products in assigned sectionsAssists in receiving and unloading of merchandise; checks and verifies grocery receiving, count, quality and conditionsAssists in building store displays for maximum sales and turnoverPerforms price checks as requestedRetrieves items that customer are unable to reach, lift or findAssists the Front End, performing as a checker or bagger as needed.Assists with cleanup of spills, breakages and other maintenance duties as assigned.Participates in training activities to increase personal skill level, to improve overall department processes and customer serviceMaintains an organized and clean work area.Performs other duties as assigned by the department head or other management personnelProvides light supervision and training of other associates when assigned.Meets the physical requirement to perform the job functions listed above.*Position requirements may vary by store location.Note: This job description is not intended, and should not be construed, to be an all-inclusive list of responsibilities, skills, efforts or working conditions associated with the job.
