With a 172-year history in the Hopkinsville community WSH is a State acute care, adult psychiatric facility, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. WSH provides in-patient psychiatric evaluation and treatment for adults from 34 counties of Western Kentucky who have severe mental illness. Every employee is part of our caring and competent team committed to excellent in behavioral healthcare for our patients and we have openings for Licensed Practical Nurses to join our team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Prepares, administers and charts medication.

• Provides direct patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.

• Performs medical treatments as instructed by physician.

• Accepts and accounts for drugs and related paraphernalia.

• Explains medication purposes, dosages and possible side effects to individuals.

• Performs simple maintenance on medical treatment equipment.

• Participates in nursing care conferences and treatment team meetings.

• Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment.

• Other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate would have:

• Skills in analytical thinking.

• Ability to work under pressure.

• Strong attention to detail.

Working Conditions

Duties may involve close work with possibly hostile mental patients. May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases and conditions which requires the following of safety procedures.

Probationary Period

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
