Position Overview The Fayetteville Technical Community College is recruiting for a full‑time Director of Disability Support Services to plan, organize, and lead the intake, evaluation, and delivery of support services for students with disabilities and diverse learning needs. The role ensures full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and applicable federal and state regulations, and provides academic and administrative support to the Senior Director of Support Services. Key Responsibilities Advise and counsel students regarding academic, personal, and accommodation‑related matters. Assess student needs through an interactive process and determine appropriate accommodations. Lead and manage the ADA interactive process with students, ensuring timely and well‑documented engagement. Serve as a primary point of contact for students experiencing complex or urgent situations requiring immediate intervention and coordination. Ensure institutional compliance with ADA requirements on the academic side, including classroom accommodations and faculty implementation. Coordinate special services with academic staff, Student Services, Continuing Education, and external agencies. Manage and evaluate requests for reasonable accommodations, including those for Continuing Education students. Collect and maintain documentation related to student disabilities in accordance with policy and legal requirements. Determine and implement reasonable accommodations that maintain academic integrity while ensuring access. Recruit, coordinate, and supervise paraprofessional staff such as sign language interpreters, note takers, test proctors, readers, and peer assistants. Request and manage part‑time contracts for accommodation support personnel. Act as liaison between students, faculty, external agencies, and college departments. Maintain positive, professional relationships with all stakeholders. Serve as the college’s subject‑matter expert on ADA compliance and accessibility. Serve on institutional committees as the ADA and accessibility expert. Lead efforts to ensure instructional, digital, and physical content is accessible to all students. Review instructional materials for accessibility compliance. Guide faculty and staff in developing accessible course content and instructional practices. Identify barriers to access and implement solutions. Provide training and technical assistance on accessibility standards and best practices. Educate and collaborate with stakeholders to resolve accommodation issues. Maintain accurate, confidential records in line with policies and regulations. Advise on the use of assistive and adaptive technologies. Ensure facilities and classrooms meet academic accommodation requirements. Develop and deliver workshops, training sessions, and resource materials related to ADA and student support. Produce publications and resources such as brochures, web content, and student guides. Serve on additional committees as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Counseling, Behavioral Sciences, or a closely related field; or equivalent. Four years of responsible academic, career, and personal counseling experience, preferably in a higher education setting with direct experience supporting students with disabilities.
