Legal Assistant

Evans & Dixon

Evans & Dixon is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to join our growing St. Louis office. In this Firm‑wide support role, you will work with multiple attorneys and teams across a variety of practice areas, serving as a primary resource for overflow work and providing essential legal and administrative support.

As a Legal Assistant, you will assist with organizing and maintaining case files, ordering and obtaining legal documents, and monitoring attorney calendars and deadlines. This position offers a unique opportunity to collaborate with numerous practice groups and gain exposure to a wide range of legal matters. Responsibilities include frequent communication with clients and opposing counsel, transcription of dictation, and handling both administrative and legal work.

Successful candidates will be independent, self‑motivated, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, while maintaining a high level of organization and confidentiality

What you'll do:

As a Legal Assistant, you will have the opportunity to support multiple attorneys and their decided legal staff:

  • Filing Management: Manage and maintain both paper and digital records by filing case documents in the appropriate case‑management software or filing cabinet.
  • Record Keeping: Order and obtain legal documents as requested by attorneys and ensure all documents are filed accurately and appropriately.
  • Initial Contact: Assist multiple attorneys by serving as the initial point of contact for clients and opposing counsel.
  • Administrative Support: Support attorneys by obtaining affidavits and other formal legal documents, transcribing written or verbal dictation, and monitoring attorney deadlines and calendars.
  • Firm Resource: Act as the Firm's designated "floater" Legal Assistant, providing support to multiple attorneys and teams and assisting with overflow or backup tasks as they arise.

What we're looking for:

  • Three to five plus years of prior legal experience in litigation, general liability, appellate briefs and workers' compensation defense
  • Must be comfortable utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Have the ability to edit and proofread correspondence and legal documents
  • Knowledge of court procedures
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others in a team-oriented environment
  • Must be well organized, detail-orientated and able to work in a fast-paced environment with changing work priorities
  • Ability to type accurately and efficiently from draft or dictation
  • Ability to work professionally and effectively with both internal and external clients on all levels
  • Ability to work in-office

Education and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Three to five years of prior legal experience required
  • Experience in general liability, litigation, appellate briefs and workers' compensation defense
