Sr. Structural Designer

Position Summary The purpose of this position is to initiate and develop practical, cost effective and fully functional structural designs and design drawings for any type of project that involves structural engineering through completion for the assigned project. Specifically, structural engineering as it pertains to foundation design and detailing, concrete design and detailing, structural steel design and detailing, and steel fabrication. The scope of this position requires an individual to perform a Structural Designer role on any project with respect to the development of structural designs and the generation of structural design drawings and the coordination of these designs with the other disciplines. Essential Job Functions Please note: The job descriptions may not be inclusive of all assigned duties, responsibilities, etc. of the job; duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to – Sr. Structural Designer IV Basic understanding of Structural Engineer’s process of performing and verifying design calculations to support other designers and overall project design. Basic knowledge of the project change control process and can identify a potential change. Is proficient in the use of the company’s Structural design software. Coordinates work with that of others in discipline group and other discipline groups on the project. Understands codes, permits, and software applications related to Structural discipline. Sr. Structural Designer III Applies a solid level of understanding within the Structural discipline. Fully understands the process of preparing design drawings using project specifications and discipline associated instructions in accordance with established practices, standards and procedures. Knowledge of cost estimating methods and performs material take-offs for the discipline. Understands compliance of engineering efforts, project schedule, controls, estimates and company procedures with assistance from the Lead Structural Designer and Project Engineer. Sr. Structural Designer II Develops complex Structural engineering design drawings. Fully understands the purpose and use of vendor documents and reviews vendor supplied documents for accuracy and project compliance. Can also review other disciplines vendor documents. Use initiative and judgment in evaluating, modifying and applying design practices and techniques. Sr. Structural Designer I May provide technical guidance and assistance to other less experienced design and draft personnel. May be required to act as a design consultant to other organizations. Requirements Sr. Structural Designer IV – Tech/Trade School/Continuing Education; ten (10) years experience Sr. Structural Designer III – Tech/Trade School/Continuing Education; twelve (12) years experience Sr. Structural Designer II – Tech/Trade School/Continuing Education; fourteen (14) years experience Sr. Structural Designer I – Tech/Trade School/Continuing Education; fifteen (15) years experience Summary Compensation for this role is determined based on a variety of factors including each candidate’s relevant experience, industry background, education, and demonstrated skills.
