Speech / Language Pathologist

Maine School Administrative District No. 6 is seeking a dynamic Pre-K Speech / Language Pathologist to join the instructional staff for the 2026-2027 school year. The Speech/Language Pathologist works to determine the best course of treatment to assist in developing speech and language skills that facilitate personal, social, and intellectual development for students. As a part of a collaborative team, the Speech/Language Pathologist will be empowered to share expertise, knowledge, and recommendations in order to respond to individual student needs by implementing intervention strategies.

Position: Speech / Language Pathologist

Location: School Buildings

Reports To: Director of Special Services, Assistant Director of Special Services

Job Goal: The Speech/Language Pathologist works to determine the best course of treatment to assist in developing speech and language skills that facilitate personal, social, and intellectual development for students. As a part of a collaborative team, the Speech/Language Pathologist will be empowered to share expertise, knowledge, and recommendations in order to respond to individual student needs by implementing intervention strategies.

Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Speech/Language Pathology or related field.
• State of Maine license as a Speech/Language Pathologist and an American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Certificate of Clinical Competence. A Clinical Fellow candidate may be considered.
• Valid Maine Department of Education Criminal History Background Check (CHRC).
• Experience in the field.
• Demonstrated positive, professional relationships with students and colleagues; evidence of strong desire to work with school-age youth.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties:

• Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy to students selected by Individual Education Plan (IEP) Team.
• Conducts speech and language screenings and diagnostic evaluations to determine the need for clinical services.
• Provides assistance in identifying students for speech and language services and participates in the development of the student's IEP.
• Provides therapy, follow-up, and/or consultation based on the student's IEP.
• Provides case management services to students with speech and language impairments.
• Sets high expectations for student achievement and behavior.
• Demonstrates awareness of the needs of students and provides for individual differences.
• Monitors student progress and makes informed, timely educational decisions.
• Provides assistance to teachers in the development and implementation of curriculum modifications and appropriate classroom strategies.
• Assists teachers, administrators, and parents in interpreting the needs of a student with a speech and language disorder and provides consultation on the special services that are available.
• Participates as a team member in the comprehensive evaluation, review, and reevaluation process.
• Plans and implements transitional programs for students.
• Organizes time, resources, energy, and workload in order to meet responsibilities.
• Utilizes research and technologies to assist students, families, schools, and communities and assists students and their families to gain access to formal and informal community resources.
• Maintains appropriate, confidential records and provides such reports and summaries as directed by the Director of Special Services.
• Participates in appropriate professional development activities to improve knowledge, skills, and best practices.

Work Year: Teacher work year as specified in the Agreement between the MSAD 6 Board of Directors and the Saco Valley Teachers Association.

Wage and Benefits: In accordance to the Agreement between the MSAD 6 Board of Directors and the Saco Valley Teachers Association.

Evaluation: Performance in this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the MSAD 6 Board of Directors' policy.
