Technical Accounting Lead, Energy Deal Advisory and Investments

Perform technical research on complex accounting issues, provide accounting consultation advice to business partners, and manage processes around internal documentation of accounting assessments.Monitor standard-setting activities and agendas from the FASB and SEC to inform the company’s influencing efforts through comment letters and industry group participation.Lead the development of Alphabet’s US GAAP accounting policies and positions, and assist in ongoing policy documentation maintenance.Prepare and deliver training programs and communications to educate the global finance organization on accounting changes and facilitate new standard implementations.Ensure compliance with relevant SOX processes and controls while maintaining appropriate documentation.Minimum qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Accounting, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Accountant (CA) or equivalent.7 years of accounting experience in public accounting and publicly-traded multinational companies.Experience with U.S. GAAP accounting principles (e.g., consolidation, investments, leases, derivatives and hedging, financial instruments, fair value measurements).Experience with technical accounting research and commodity agreements involving power purchase agreements, energy supply agreements, renewable energy credits, and power-related investments.Preferred qualifications:Experience with SOX 404 compliance.Excellent understanding of US GAAP.Investigative, organized and thorough with attention to detail for continuous improvement.Ability to work with senior management and influence decision-making.As the Technical Accounting Lead for Energy Deal Advisory and Investments, you will serve as a strategic subject-matter expert guiding the business through cutting-edge commercial power transactions, clean energy procurement, and complex asset investments. In this role, you will advise and support cross-functional partners—including product area controllership, finance, legal, and energy procurement teams—by analyzing technical accounting implications and evaluating non-standard agreements under various US GAAP topics (including ASC 810, ASC 815, ASC 842, and ASC 321/323) to optimize agreement outcomes while ensuring compliance and safeguarding accounting integrity.This dedicated deal advisory and research role moves beyond routine month-end reporting, placing you at the front lines of structuring Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs/VPPAs), Energy Supply Agreements (ESAs), Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) arrangements, and direct equity investments in clean energy infrastructure. You will solve intellectually stimulating, specialized accounting puzzles, draft formal technical accounting position papers, and present strategic recommendations directly to executive leadership, commercial deal leads, and external auditors.
