Job Description

This role focuses on operating a variety of grinders and hand tools to smooth and finish custom trailers to a high quality standard. You will prepare and refine metal surfaces, verify quality through inspection, and support safe and efficient production by maintaining tools, equipment, and your work area.

Responsibilities

• Operate dual-action sanders, electric grinders, and high-speed grinders with close attention to detail to smooth out crevices and correct flawed areas on trailers.
• Use hand tools such as wrenches, pliers, torque wrenches, power bleeders, and files to support grinding, repair, and finishing tasks.
• Inspect and feel workpieces to verify that surfaces meet established quality and finish standards.
• Bleed brakes accurately by following manuals, work instructions, and standard procedures.
• Use measuring tapes, combination squares, and levels to confirm dimensions, alignment, and accuracy of workpieces.
• Maintain, organize, and clean your workstation and equipment, including changing grinding pads and ensuring tools are in proper working condition.
• Follow all safety regulations and use required personal protective equipment, such as gloves, face shields, and steel-toe shoes.

• Ensure all actions comply with applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Participate in cross-training activities and complete other duties as assigned to support production needs and team flexibility.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in operating dual-action sanders, electric grinders, and high-speed grinders for metal finishing work.
• Ability to use hand and power tools, including wrenches, pliers, torque wrenches, power bleeders, and files.
• Experience working with torque tools and applying correct torque to fasteners and components.
• Capability to inspect and feel workpieces to evaluate surface quality and identify imperfections.
• Skill in using measuring tools such as measuring tapes, combination squares, and levels to verify accuracy.
• Understanding of and adherence to safety regulations, including consistent use of personal protective equipment.
• Ability to follow manuals, work instructions, and established procedures with accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong focus on quality, with the ability to produce consistent, precise results in a production environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with grinding, sanding, and weld repair in a fabrication or trailer manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with weld fixtures and related setup or finishing processes.
• Comfort working with a variety of hand and power tools in a shop or production setting.
• Willingness to participate in cross-training and support other departments or roles as needed.
• Commitment to continuous learning, training, and skill development in metalworking and finishing.

Work Environment

This is a hands-on, shop-floor role in a production environment focused on custom trailer fabrication. You will work with grinders, sanders, weld-related fixtures, and a variety of hand and power tools, including torque tools and measuring equipment. The facility is not climate controlled, so temperatures can vary with the seasons; during warmer months, the team provides chilled beverages and treats to help keep employees comfortable. Work is organized into A and B shifts with flexible scheduling options, and you will collaborate closely with supervisors and teammates across departments. Personal protective equipment, including gloves, face shields, and steel-toe shoes, is required and forms a key part of the safety culture on the floor.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Maryville, TN.

The pay range for this position is $17.23 - $18.23/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Maryville,TN.
