Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Medical Oncology PCU (Progressive Care Unit) position requiring high-acuity PCU experience and telemetry skills, with oncology experience preferred but not required.

Details

• 36-bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care at an academic cancer hospital
• Medical Oncology unit with progressive care and a small number of med-surg beds
• Patient population includes solid tumor, orthopedic oncology, and thoracic oncology diagnoses
• PCU patient ratio of 1:3; med-surg telemetry ratio of 1:4-5
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00–07:30); rotating day/night contracts may also be scheduled for days, nights, or a combination based on department needs
• Self-scheduling system: candidates submit preferred schedule requests prior to final schedule posting, reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
• Floating required within units of equivalent or lower acuity
• Equipment used includes GE B450 telemetry monitors, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds, bladder scanner, PCA pumps, and continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) systems

Requirements

• Active OH RN license or compact RN license currently in hand
• Current certifications: BLS (BCLS), ACLS, and NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Minimum of 1–2 years of high-acuity PCU experience required
• Oncology experience preferred but not required
• Telemetry skills required, including interpretation of dysrhythmias
• Proficiency with required clinical skills: feeding tube care and management, port access, blood product administration, central/PICC/peripheral line management, IV insertion, heparin protocols, non-titrated cardiac drips, PCA management, titration of cardiac drips, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), external CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, nasal cannula, and tracheostomy management
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred
• Pediatric experience is NOT required

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of week one (Mon–Fri dayshift) followed by a second week of 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor
• Pediatric patients are occasionally present on the unit but are extremely rare and are typically cared for by permanent staff
• Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
• Preferred skills include chemotherapy administration and monitoring, IV insulin/insulin drip titration, arterial line management, wound care/wound vac, phlebotomy, surgical drains, and non-invasive airway management
• No break in assignment required between contracts when changing representation at this health system (exception applies to Sterile Processing Techs, who require a 30-day break)
• 2 professional references from a supervisor within the past 2 years are required for consideration
• Full 7-year work history with all gaps explained is required for consideration
• All time off and scheduling requests must be disclosed at the time of initial consideration
