Job Summary The OB-GYN performs a wide range of medical duties related to women's health. Conducts examinations, diagnostic tests, and screenings, such as pap smear, pelvic exams, and breast exams. Diagnose and treat disorders and diseases specific to the female reproductive system. Provide prenatal care, assist in childbirth, and offer guidance on family planning and reproductive health. Provides other general inpatient and outpatient services within scope of practice and service consistent with the mission, vision, values, and strategic plan of the organization within assigned departments. Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients, families, managers, and the general public. Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment. - Provides and manages direct patient care, including physical examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, procedures, and treatment as a physician of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN), in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.
- Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate.
- Conducts routine check-ups on patients.
- Records medical histories.
- Educate patients about disease prevention, detection, and reproductive health.
- Collaborate with other medical and on-medical personnel.
- Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required.
- Takes part in providing on-call coverage for hospital services.
- Trains and supervises medical students and residents engaged in specialty activities and procedures, as appropriate.
- Follows established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives, Medical Staff Bylaws, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
- As appropriate to the position, participates in specified health promotion, education and/or prevention programs.
- Keep up to date with current practices and innovations.
- Oversees, develops, and helps implement the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI).
- Respond to emergency medical situations in an urgent manner and perform on the spot emergency assistance which may include first aid and/or CPR.
- Practices and behaves in a professional, safe and ethical manner at all times.
- Serves as a patient advocate.
- Maintains friendly and courteous interpersonal communication skills and a positive service attitude.
- Participates in performance improvement and educational activities. Completes all CEU's as required by respective licensure. If licensed, maintains an active and current license.
- Works willingly and accepts assignments as given.
- Attends all mandatory meetings and programs.
- Participates in opportunities that enhance personal and professional growth.
- Performs other duties as necessary or assigned.
- Complies with the Corporate Compliance Policy and all laws, regulations, and Standards of Conduct relating to the position and agrees to report any suspected violations of law or Standards of Conduct.
- Complies with all applicable state and federal regulations and JCAHO standards.
- Maintains a safe work environment using safe work practices, utilizing standard precautions and complying with hazardous waste procedures at all times as described in St. Anthony's Safety Manual.
- Maintains the confidentiality of patient, resident, employee and organizational information.
- Graduate of an accredited MD or DO medical school program.
- Graduate of an OBGYN Residency program.
- Fellowship training preferred,.
- Certification/Licensure: State of Iowa Licensure and CSA certification. Federal DEA Certification; Board certified or Board Eligible in Specified Area of Medical Specialty.
- Basic and Advanced Life Support for adults.
- STABLE Certification
- NRP Certification
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
- Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.
- Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.
- Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services.
- Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise.
- Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.
- Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops.
- Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in area of expertise.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.
- Ability to observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress.

- Impeccable bedside manner.
- May be subject to credentialing process; must maintain credentialed status, when applicable.
