Cytotechnologist - CytologyTo diagnose gynecological and non-gynecological specimens for cellular abnormalities via microscope. To correlate existing laboratory history or clinical information with microscopic findings.Educational requirements to meet American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certification Certifications, Licenses or Registration Required: ASCP Board of Registry Cytotechnologist Certification or eligible for certification.ResponsibilitiesPrepares, stains, and examines specimens for study to detect minute abnormalities in the shape, color, or size of a cell.Conducts evaluations to detect abnormal hormone conditions and other pathological diseases processes.Diagnosis negative slides and refers atypical, inconclusive, or positive cases for further evaluation; confers with supervisors and other relevant personnel on an ongoing basis about cases.Maintains accurate records and documentation of samples and analysis to avoid patient mix-up.Performs and records preventative maintenance and function verification of microscope and other equipment.Ensures compliance with workplace safety, environmental, and/or infection control practices.Performs other duties as assigned.The duties listed are general in nature and are examples of the duties and responsibilities performed and are not meant to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.
