Summer Lab Intern - Chemistry - Kings Hwy - PRN

Job Overview This position is responsible for clerical functions that support the department, including maintaining the overall cleanliness of lab areas, performing appropriate quality control functions, and monitoring equipment. The role involves following established protocols and routine operational procedures to ensure smooth laboratory operations. Education Required - High School Diploma/GED or equivalent Work Experience Required – less than 1 year experience in a medical office, office, or customer service setting Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Basic reading, writing, spelling, and math skills for daily paperwork and reporting Proficiency in using copy machines, calculators, computers, and printers Strong organizational and time‑management skills, capable of working with minimal supervision Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to cooperate with team members Computer skills for data entry and retrieval of patient information; proficiency with Windows‑style applications and keyboard usage Job Duties Provide client services support by assisting internal and external doctors, nurses, and labs to facilitate delivery of patient laboratory results using EPIC and the Laboratory computer system, SOFT Communicate test delay issues to the House Coordinator and Emergency Department Facilitate communication between labs and different departments across hospitals Enter outside Home Health agency orders into Epic to ensure proper billing Act as the call center for the laboratory, ensuring efficient call transfer to avoid impeding laboratory staff Receive laboratory supply orders from clinics, hospitals, and external clients, and distribute via lab courier Discard outdated specimens according to established guidelines Monitor and clean equipment, performing quality control on glassware, checking pH levels, and conducting general surface cleaning Perform water checks for detergent residue and autoclave spore checks in accordance with laboratory policy Count inventory weekly and verify expiration dates following proper procedure Properly discard biohazard waste daily Adapt behavior for the specific patient population, ensuring respect for privacy, appropriate introduction, communication style, and permission requests Perform other duties as assigned Comply with all policies and standards Physical and Environmental Demands Light work: occasional lifting of up to 20 pounds, frequent lifting of up to 10 pounds, and minimal force for constant movements. The job requires walking or standing for significant periods, standing for most of the shift, and pushing or pulling materials. Exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue is routine. Employees working in patient care areas may be exposed to communicable diseases and hazardous medications or waste during receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning, or disposal of contaminated waste.
