Location: Petersburg VA

Schedule: Monday to Friday – 7:30 A.M – 4:30 P.M

Projected duration: 3 months with potential for permanent placement

Overview:

The primary role of a blood draw specialist is to support in performing a variety of assigned tasks, providing training, troubleshooting, and offering process improvement suggestions.

Responsibilities:

Experience in conducting blood draws, labeling samples, centrifuging specimens, maintaining records, decontamination, updating patient records, etc.

Collecting and storing specimens in accordance with established protocols. Clearly and politely explaining the venipuncture process or other specimen collection procedures to patients

Demonstrating proficiency in using straight needles and/or butterfly needles

Thoroughly understanding all physician instructions. Matching requisition forms with specimen tubes. Labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens based on test orders.

Verifying test requisitions to ensure accuracy. Packaging specimens for transportation

Properly storing specimens at required temperatures, placing samples in suitable containers, labeling accurately, and following specific protocols for transport to preserve specimen integrity. Adhering to OSHA and DEP regulations.

Participating in annual departmental training sessions

Responding to telephone inquiries and relaying laboratory results

Minimum Requirements:

Valid certification in Phlebotomy for the state of employment as required

At least 6 months of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital environment

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. High School Diploma or equivalent
