Funeral Attendant (part-time)

This support role performs a variety of manual and office tasks in preparation of, during and after funeral services to ensure services run smoothly and as planned. Job Responsibilities Prepare casket and deceased for visitation or funeral services: dress casket, adjust deceased clothing and jewelry, transport casket through hallways, and assist with lifting deceased. Set up rooms for a variety of services; clean and arrange chairs, tables, icons, guest books, flowers, keepsakes, mementos, casket, and urn. Greet visitors, provide programs, answer questions, and provide funeral services information. Act as a pallbearer and drive families to cemetery site. Following services, remove, clean, and properly store company property; package, load, and deliver family mementos, keepsakes, and flowers. Courteously answer phones, screen callers, take first‑call information, notify staff members when appointments arrive, and escort guests to appropriate rooms. Maintain reception area and refreshments (make coffee, dispose of trash, replenish supplies, straightening, cleaning, or vacuum). Review documents for accuracy, enter data into proprietary systems, receive deliveries, make copies, scan, fax, fold/prepare memorial materials, and perform mailroom tasks. Drive and maintain vehicles: transport, pick up, and deliver documents, family mementos, flowers, and similar articles; wash, vacuum, clean vehicles, and fuel vehicles safely following guidelines. Minimum Requirements Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Certification/Licence: Valid state‑issued driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Experience: No prior work experience required; funeral industry experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Follow instructions given over the phone or in person. Use a personal computer and type. Effective verbal and written communication with others. Compassion and kindness for deceased and their families; maintain composure in challenging situations. Maintain confidentiality. Collaborate with colleagues to accomplish tasks. Work evenings and weekends; lift up to 50 pounds; push/pull up to 200 pounds. Work Conditions Work environment: indoors and outdoors during all seasons and weather conditions. Professional dress required when in contact with families. Drive company‑owned vehicles; varied traffic conditions. Standing up to 6 hours per day; frequent stair climbing. Physical demands: lift up to 50 pounds; push/pull up to 200 pounds; manual dexterity required. Work hours include beyond standard hours, weekends, nights, and holidays. Local travel within the area.
