Section Chief in Psychiatry (Part-time, 0.60 FTE) - IllinoisCOM

Position: Physician Educator – Psychiatry (Part-Time, 0.60 FTE) Location: Chicago, IL Reports to: Chair of Surgery and Specialty Medicine Principal Duties Provide visionary leadership for integration of mental health-centered curriculum within IllinoisCOM. Lead curriculum development and assessment for the Psychiatry clinical rotation. Assist curriculum development and assessment in preclinical courses as needed. Assist in recruitment, mentoring, and development of faculty members within the department. Maintain partnerships with hospitals, clinics, and community organizations to support clinical training and research opportunities. Ensure compliance with accreditation standards and institutional policies. Oversee the development and delivery of an innovative, holistic psychiatric curriculum. Teach medical students using evidence-based instructional methods, including case-based and small-group learning. Support student coaching, mentoring, and professional development in clinical and academic settings. Collaborate with other faculty and clinical educators to integrate mental health-centering content across the curriculum. Represent the College in professional organizations and events. Assist where needed with student recruitment and community outreach efforts. Participate in college and University committees. Support student and faculty participation in community outreach and service‑learning programs. Advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion in medical education. Engage in clinical practice (strongly encouraged). Promote a culture of research and scholarship and support faculty and student research. Seek external funding opportunities and partnerships to enhance research initiatives. Ensure ethical and regulatory compliance for research activities. Basic Qualifications DO or MD degree with board certification in related specialty. At least five (5) years of experience in medical education, residency training, or faculty leadership. Demonstrated excellence in teaching, curriculum development, and student mentorship. Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills. Commitment to collaborative, interprofessional education and the integration of osteopathic principles in training. Ideal Qualifications Experience as a department chair, program director, or senior faculty leader in an accredited medical school or residency program. Strong background in educational innovation, simulation-based training, and competency-based assessment. Established record of research and scholarly activity in clinical practice or medical education. Demonstrated commitment to health equity, diversity, and inclusion in clinical practice and medical education. Position Details Salary range: $105,000 – $165,000, commensurate with experience and academic rank. Employment type: Part-time, 0.60 FTE. Location: Chicago, IL.
