Data Engineer - Snowflake

Snowflake Data Engineer Bellevue, WA

Responsibilities

• Design and develop Snowflake Semantic Views for telecom network domains, including logical tables, facts, dimensions, relationships, and metrics.
• Translate raw network counters into standardized KPIs aligned with 3GPP measurement definitions .
• Build time-series models supporting 5-minute, 15-minute, hourly, and daily granularities.
• Implement correct aggregation logic for additive, semi-additive, and ratio-based KPIs.
• Develop conformed dimensions for network elements, node types, vendors, regions/sites, time, services, and network slices .
• Maintain semantic metadata including synonyms, descriptions, metric definitions, and sample questions for Cortex Analyst.
• Collaborate with Data Engineering teams on Kafka, Snowpipe Streaming, Snowflake Kafka Connector, Openflow, Dynamic Tables, Streams, and Tasks .
• Implement automated schema drift, data drift, and KPI formula-change detection .
• Establish data contracts, versioning, change-management, and backward-compatibility standards.
• Monitor data freshness, latency SLAs, and near-real-time data availability .
• Manage semantic definitions as code and implement CI/CD pipelines across environments.
• Develop automated tests for KPI formulas, data quality, row counts, nulls, thresholds, anomalies, and regression validation.
• Maintain a KPI catalog and business glossary covering definitions, formulas, source counters, ownership, and change history.
• Optimize Snowflake performance and cost through clustering, warehouse sizing, materialization, and query optimization .
• Work closely with Data Engineering, BI, and Analytics teams using Power BI, Tableau, and other platforms.
• Act as the technical SME for metric definitions and resolve KPI discrepancies across teams.

Required Skills

• Strong hands-on experience with Snowflake and Advanced SQL .
• Experience with Snowflake Semantic Views and/or Cortex Analyst semantic models .
• Strong experience with Dynamic Tables, Streams & Tasks, Snowpipe/Snowpipe Streaming .
• Experience building Semantic Layers / Metrics Layers using technologies such as:
  • Snowflake Semantic Views
  • dbt Semantic Layer / MetricFlow
  • AtScale
  • LookML
  • Power BI Semantic Models

• Strong knowledge of Kimball dimensional modeling, star schemas, facts, and dimensions .
• Experience working with high-volume time-series data .
• Telecom domain knowledge, particularly network performance counters and KPIs , is strongly preferred.
• Understanding of 3GPP measurement definitions is a plus.
• Strong understanding of Kafka and streaming concepts , including topics, partitions, event time, processing time, late/out-of-order data, and exactly-once semantics.
• Experience with Python and/or Snowpark .
• Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, data quality, and monitoring .
• Strong analytical and communication skills.
