High Voltage Distribution Specialist – Contributing Sign‑on Bonus: Eligible candidates may receive a sign‑on bonus of $4,460, paid in two installments of $2,230 within 30 days of hire and at the end of the first year. Position Summary: The Electric Distribution Systems (EDS) team is responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of the campus electrical distribution system. The High Voltage Distribution Specialist will maintain underground and overhead systems, transformers, power metering, closed‑loop high‑speed networking, and smart grid equipment. Responsibilities Install, operate, and maintain underground and overhead electrical distribution infrastructure. Maintain transformers, power metering equipment, and closed‑loop high‑speed networking. Use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and IBM Maximo for switching procedures and system management. Work with contractors to support EDS system requirements. Respond to outages and restore service under adverse weather and emergency conditions. Participate in on‑call rotation and emergency duty as required. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalency with at least six months of electrical experience, or equivalent combination of training and experience. Valid NC Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or willingness to obtain one prior to start date. Certification(s) as required by the department. Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in adverse weather conditions. Physical ability to operate heavy equipment such as backhoes, truck‑mounted hold diggers, crane, and machine shop tools. Physical Effort Work in manholes (4′×4′×6′ to 10′×20′×8′) and indoor/outdoor substations; exposure to inclement weather, extreme temperatures, and hazardous materials.
