Position Summary

This is a permanent, year-round, full-time entry-level role is intended to provide hands-on exposure to shop and field support work and may serve as a development path for future opportunities, including potential entry into affiliated union career paths, based on business needs, qualifications, performance, and available opportunities. The Shop Assistant supports daily shop operations while building the technical skills, safety habits, and field readiness required to move toward union apprenticeship and a long-term trade career. We invest heavily in the people in this seat - training, certifications, and licensing. We are looking for someone who intends to build a career here!

• Load, unload, and clean trucks that come into the shop daily, safely and efficiently
• Gather materials for upcoming and ongoing projects
• Pick up and deliver parts and supplies as directed
• Maintain toolboxes, workstations, and overall presentation of the grounds
• Paint small miscellaneous equipment and shop items as needed
• Perform routine maintenance and pre-trip checks on equipment and trucks (fuel, fluids, tires)
• Keep the shop neat, organized, and inventory-ready
• Communicate with management when items need replenishing, repair, or replacement
• Operate forklift/hi-lo equipment (light and heavy) once trained and certified
• Follow all safety protocols without reminders and maintain required certifications
• Take on additional tasks as needed with a go-getter attitude
• Move quickly and consistently through repetitive, routine work

• High school diploma or GED
• Valid driver's license with a clean record, and willingness to pursue a CDL
• Available to work full-time, year-round, on a permanent basis, including early starts and occasional overtime, with hours that vary week to week
• Mechanically inclined, with genuine interest in industrial, construction, or machinery-moving work
• Self-motivated and able to keep pace in a fast-moving setting
• Able to take direction and constructive criticism without defensiveness
• Reliable attendance and punctuality
• Strong communication and basic computer skills
• Problem-solving and decision-making ability

• Ascend/descend ladders, scaffolds, and stairs; operate scissor/boom lifts at height, operate forklifts
• Work in confined spaces and near loud equipment
• Regularly lift, carry, or move up to 50 pounds
• Move safely over uneven terrain
• Stand for long periods; push, pull, bend, stoop, crouch, and crawl
• Successfully pass a 10-panel drug screen as required

• 1+ years in an industrial, shop, construction, or hands-on labor environment
• Hi-lo/forklift experience
• Basic welding, rigging, hand and power tool, or equipment experience
• Stated interest in a skilled trades or union career path
