Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights | 3x12 or 4x12 shifts | Every other weekend, floating, and holidays within the contract are expected | 48-hour contract options available; overtime may be available after 48 hours

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care in an ICU setting with a typical patient ratio of 1:2–3
• Perform ventilator management, IV drip titration, and telemetry monitoring
• Conduct dysrhythmia recognition and management, including emergency response and critical care management
• Administer and monitor conscious sedation
• Apply strong neuro critical care skills including NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) assessment
• Float as needed to Stepdown, Emergency Department, or Medical-Surgical units to care for ICU patients being held

Required Qualifications

• Active Virginia or Compact RN license in hand at time of submission — no exceptions
• BLS certification (American Heart Association only)
• ACLS certification (American Heart Association only)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Proficiency in Epic EMR required — no exceptions
• Must pass an EKG/telemetry test with a score of 80% or higher prior to start; one attempt is given with no remediation available
• Must be able to pass standard fit testing; PAPR cannot be accommodated — any history of fit test issues will disqualify a candidate
• No prior license or background hits will be considered — no exceptions
• Must live at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Minimum of three years of critical care experience preferred; strong candidates with less experience may be considered
• Previous travel nursing experience preferred
• Experience with neuro critical care populations
• Familiarity with complex EKG interpretation including heart blocks, lethal rhythms, atrial and junctional rhythms, and pacing
