Role Description Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Controller will assist in all financial aspects of the company, its day-to-day and month-end processes, year-end audit processes, and various special projects, ensuring results comply with generally accepted accounting principles and other compliance requirements. Successful candidates will not only possess excellent analytical skills and a thorough knowledge of accounting principles, but will also be self-motivated team players who thrive in a busy workplace. Our corporate office comprises a small group of individuals who wear multiple hats, and we are looking for someone who can complement our already successful team and contribute to our positive, supportive work environment. Responsibilities and Duties Primary responsibilities include performing general accounting functions related to Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Inventory Accounting, and Accounts Receivable. Specific duties to include: Manage General Ledger, including journal entries, account analysis and reconciliation, and charts of accounts. Manage Accounts Payable by setting up vendors, coding, organizing, and approving bills for timely payment processing, ensuring payments are charged to the appropriate accounts. Provide back-up for Accounts Receivable personnel as needed. Reconcile and balance all bank accounts, verify deposits, and address inquiries from banks. Reconcile prepaid expense/product accounts and credit card reports monthly. Manage inventory accounting and analysis, including shrink reports. Enter and maintain Fixed Assets in the FAS system. Responsible for annual filing of Personal Property Tax Returns and State and Federal tax reporting (Sales/Use, Fuel Taxes, etc.) filed quarterly and annually. Prepare and mail 1099 Misc. forms annually. Assist with all aspects of the month/quarter/year-end closing process, ensuring transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP and internal policies within required deadlines. Work with auditors on annual audit preparation and income tax collection data. Perform other general clerical duties such as filing, copying, and operating departmental office equipment, along with other assigned tasks and duties necessary to support the Accounting Department. Print and sort customer monthly AR statements. All aspects of the month/quarter/year-end closing process, ensuring transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP and internal policies within required deadlines. Qualifications and Skills To be qualified for this position, candidates should have an Associate’s Degree in Accounting (Bachelor’s Degree preferred); however, work experience may be substituted for a degree. Successful candidates will be self-motivated team players with a positive attitude, an outstanding work ethic, and a dedication to delivering results. Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Would consider experience in lieu of a degree. Knowledge of acceptable accounting practices and procedures, and general financial and cost accounting. Mastery of balance sheets and balance sheet reconciliations. Familiarity with managing intercompany accounts and consolidation from multiple legal entities. Experience coordinating audit activities and managing financial reporting, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and month-end/year-end close processes. Retail Accounting and/or Ag Accounting experience helpful but not required. Experience with software conversion and implementation a plus! Strong organizational and analytical skills with attention to detail and the ability to prioritize daily tasks and projects independently and autonomously. Consistently accurate and on time with execution of tasks. Willingness to perform tasks in adjacent areas even when not directly related to job function. Possesses interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate with all levels of the organization. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with QuickBooks, iRely, and AgVantage software systems is a plus.
