Registered Nurse - Stepdown/Critical Care

Job Overview Provides direct nursing care in settings where patients require complex assessments and intervention, in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. Responsibilities Obtains comprehensive data from patients, families, and other healthcare providers to develop a holistic picture of the patient’s needs or condition. Analyzes and synthesizes assessment data to determine diagnoses and conditions relevant to care. Identifies optimal outcomes in collaboration with the patient, family, and interprofessional team. Develops a plan that prescribes strategies and alternatives to attain outcomes, using clinical judgment in collaboration with the care team. Implements the plan, employing strategies to promote and maintain a safe environment and coordinating implementation with the patient, family and interprofessional team. Evaluates processes and progress toward attainment of goals and outcomes. Contributes to the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, evaluates own practice, and maintains current knowledge and competence. Communicates effectively in all areas of practice and collaborates with patients, families, and the interprofessional team. Uses clinical inquiry and integrates best evidence into practice. Applies evidence‑based practice and scientific knowledge to critical care nursing, ensuring care is delivered based on age‑specific needs and clinical requirements outlined in the department’s Scope of Service. Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or equivalent education for licensing. No prior nursing experience required. Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of employment (Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wisconsin). Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Advanced Life Support (ALS), Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), or NRP Essentials—required depending on state regulations. Physical ability to stand and walk continuously, lift up to 25 lbs frequently and up to 50 lbs occasionally, perform patient repositioning, and operate office equipment. Physical Requirements Constant use of speech for oral communication. Frequent standing, walking, and sitting; frequent lifting 0–25 lbs; occasional lifting 25–50 lbs and patient handling. Frequent use of vision, hearing, and ability to detect colors, alarms, and mechanical malfunction. Occasional driving and other duties as needed. Professional Licenses Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of employment. Basic Life Support (BLS) Health Care Provider (HCP) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA). Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or NRP Essentials, depending on state requirements.
