Job Title: Mechanical Engineer – Capital ProjectsReports to: VP Technology and CIDepartment: EngineeringStatus: Regular Full Time Position – Exempt/SalaryPosition Value PropositionThe Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing capital expenditure projects related to steel fabrication and manufacturing. This role involves designing mechanical systems, managing automated machine installation project timelines and budgets, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project delivery. The ideal candidate will have experience in heavy industrial environments and a strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles applied to manufacturing, automation and steel fabrication processes.Core ResponsibilitiesProject Planning & Execution: Lead the design, budgeting, and implementation of capital projects involving mechanical systems in steel fabrication plants.Equipment Specification & Procurement: Identify and specify mechanical equipment and systems required for fabrication and erection processes.Process Improvement: Analyze current operations and recommend changes to improve productivity, efficiency, safety, and quality. Mechanical design and overseeing the build of custom solutions is required.Technical Documentation: Develop and maintain engineering drawings, specifications, and project documentation.Vendor Coordination: Work with suppliers and contractors to ensure timely delivery and installation of mechanical components.Compliance & Safety: Ensure all mechanical designs and installations comply with industry standards, codes, and safety regulations.Cross-functional Collaboration: Coordinate with fabrication, erection, quality, and safety teams to align project goals and execution.Budget & Timeline Management: Monitor project costs and schedules to ensure alignment with capital expenditure plans.ADDITIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:(This job description is not an exclusive or exhaustive list of all job responsibilities and functions that an employee in this position may be asked to perform. Shop floor and/or job site experience required.Education/TrainingBachelor’s degree in mechanical, industrial, manufacturing, construction engineering, or a related field.Specialized Knowledge – Certificates & LicensesStrong knowledge of mechanical systems, structural steel components, and fabrication processes.Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.Strong communication and collaboration abilities across engineering and operations teams.Understand safety standards and regulatory compliance in industrial environments.Software & TechnologyPosition will require the use of 2D & 3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and project management tools.Work EnvironmentPosition requires as many hours needed to fulfill the daily and weekly obligations required to carry out the functions and may require occasional evening and weekends. Travel will be required up to 30% of the time. This position is indoors in a climate-controlled office.
