We are hiring an Enrichment Activities Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year who is dedicated to moving children beyond academic achievement and opportunity gaps, are passionate about helping children see and reach their full potential, and bring energy, inspiration, excitement, and love to the students they teach.
We are specifically seeking a teacher who believes in the importance of developing the whole child and is adept at honing in on areas where scholars are struggling academically and establishing an individualized learning plan for each student.
The Academies Teacher will be responsible for developing age appropriate, developmental courses focused on a broad set of enrichment opportunities including but not limited fine and performing arts. The Academies Teacher will work in collaboration with other Academies Teachers to ensure that all scholars have a variety of experiences over the course of the year.
A successful teacher will want to work with One City Schools to help us grow one of the most unique and transformational public schools in Wisconsin: One City Elementary School (OCES, grades K4-4) and One City Preparatory Academy (OCPA, grades 5 - 8) . BACKGROUND ON ONE CITY SCHOOLS
One City Schools is a Wisconsin-based nonprofit organization that provides high quality educational opportunities for young children. Our mission is to seed a new model of public education that ensures young children are on track to succeed in a college or career preparatory program from birth through high school graduation. Our vision is of a Greater Madison community (and country) where all children are prepared to contribute and succeed as adults. More importantly, we aim to partner with families and the broader community to cultivate children who become free, global and deep thinkers, curious learners, effective problem solvers, humanitarians, happy people and young people who care about the world around them.
One City Schools focus on a two-generation public school, authorized by the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents, that provides a tuition-free education to children and works directly with families to ensure children are inspired, learning, growing and achieving to their full potential. OCES is also the only public school in Wisconsin that offers both a longer school day and longer school year, including 60-minutes of co-curricular extended-day learning academies in Sports, Fitness, STEM, Girl Scouts, Boys to Men and Creative and Performing Arts. However, our educators work a standard 8-hour workday.
Recently, we moved into our permanent home, a $12 million facility located at 1707 W. Broadway in Monona, Wisconsin, a small city locate on the South Side of our capital city just three minutes from our current location. This 13.5 acre campus includes a 157,000 school facility that will eventually serve grades K - 12 , and a new 140,000 square foot athletic center with a high school/college-sized indoor soccer field, two high school/college sized basketball courts, weight training and cardio rooms, locker rooms, or features and underground access to our school facility. Our campus also includes a wooded nature area for science and outdoor learning, and outdoor play space. The campus is situated just 5 blocks from Lake Monona, just north of Lake Waubesa and 10 minutes from downtown Madison.
TEACHER’S PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
One City Teachers assure that all students receive a high quality and inspiring learning experience that helps them reach their full potential. They provide a warm, nurturing, safe, and encouraging learning environment where self-esteem is enhanced, independence encouraged, and individuality is respected. They also demonstrate a strong commitment to achieving positive results in student growth and achievement through:
- (A) a creative use of resources,
- (B) using evidence and data to inform instruction,
- (C) involving parents and community volunteers in the education process,
- (D) being open to evaluation and coaching support, and
- (E) learning and fully utilizing EL (Expeditionary Learning) education practices, effective teaching strategies, and multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS).
Specific performance responsibilities include:
- Establish a classroom culture that is safe, collaborative, celebratory, and intellectually challenging for all students, and that learning goals for all students are met;
- Develop and execute units of study and lesson plans that align State Standards, EL Education, and related curricula in math, science, and social studies to promote students’ in-depth understanding, critical thinking, problem solving, mastery of knowledge and skills, character development, achievement, and commitment to high quality work;
- Monitor and supervise effective classroom and school-wide structures that promote active, student-driven learning and positive student behavior and safety;
- Maintain an orderly, academically-focused classroom environment and effective management of instructional materials and records;
- Keep current in knowledge and practice of the curriculum, child development and relevant theories of learning, and be willing to share their knowledge for continual improvement of One City’s educational program and curriculum.
- Assist in on-going curriculum reviews, including offering feedback on school and program effectiveness.
- Become acquainted with supplemental materials and services beneficial to students as an extension of regular classroom activities.
- Build and maintain positive and engaging relationships with parents/families and work cooperatively with them to strengthen the educational program for their children.
- Utilize effective practices for community building, including rituals and traditions that build a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment.
- Utilize authentic formative and summative assessments to gauge learning, guide instruction, and provide timely feedback to students;
- Participate in regular and ongoing professional development efforts and working collaboratively with grade band/level planning to constantly improve professional practice;
- Participate fully and positively in a staff culture and the relentless pursuit of our mission; and
- Work cooperatively with grade level and the school team in all areas of instruction, assessment, documentation, parent/guardian involvement, and classroom management.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
- Strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals and objectives of One City, and to working with young children from diverse racial/cultural populations and their families; experience working with diverse children preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in elementary education, or related field.
- Experience in EL (Expeditionary Learning) or student-led project-based learning, a plus.
- Valid Wisconsin Educators License or willingness to become certified ASAP.
- Minimum of two (2) years teaching experience preferred but not required; urban teaching (or student-teaching) experience and teaching children from racial, ethnic, and linguistically diverse backgrounds also preferred.
- Ability to regularly and routinely lift and push at least 50 pounds.
- Completion of a background check required.
- Be at least 18 years of age.
