Safety is a core part of our culture and is treated as an integral part of daily operations. All personnel, including subcontractors, suppliers, and vendors, are responsible for maintaining a safety of paramount concern. We pursue an active, comprehensive accident prevention policy with a goal of zero incident worksites. Roles & Responsibilities Ensure every leader and individual encourages a safety attitude for life among team members. Respond first to investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses and manage the accident investigation process. Investigate accidents and injuries to determine causes and whether incidents were avoidable or preventable. Interview customers, managers, and employees to learn about work environments and incidents that lead to accidents or injuries. Evaluate the corrections made to remedy the incident. Work with the customer to resolve any safety matters that arise. Manage open injury claims, oversee back‑to‑work programs for light duty and kept‑on‑salary employees, coordinating efforts with the Safety Manager and Approach Retro Group manager. Assist Foremen and provide monthly feedback to Hermanson management on activities and results related to accidents, root causes, costs, and prevention. Regularly tour jobsites and shops with Foremen, Superintendents, and Project Managers to identify hazards and unsafe employee work habits, intervening in unsafe activities. Conduct new hire orientation, site‑specific safety training for new employees, and organize training for crews on equipment such as forklifts, aerial lifts, fall protection, trenching, confined spaces, etc. Prepare site‑specific safety manuals, fall protection work plans, and job hazard analyses. Assist the Safety Manager in maintaining and updating the company’s accident prevention program, including: Developing procedures and systems to protect people from illness, injury, and property damage. Conducting weekly job‑site audits, identifying hazards, inspecting facilities, machinery, and safety equipment, documenting safety visits, and administering drug tests as needed. Reviewing plans and specifications for new machinery and equipment to ensure compliance with safety requirements. Reviewing employee safety programs and recommending improvements. Ensuring Foremen comply with DOSH safety regulations, complete Pre‑Task Planning, and follow the Hermanson Accident Prevention Program. Attending monthly safety committee meetings and ensuring weekly safety meetings occur on job sites. Compiling records neatly and concisely to support company‑wide safety and health information gathering. Updating programs in accordance with Washington State laws, covering worker safety, property protection, vehicle safety, customer safety, and staying abreast of legal changes. Accountabilities & KPIs Annual Safety Budget 100% of required training and certifications met and documented Retro rating refund OSHA compliance audits Monthly cost per head vs RIR Salary Salary range: $100,000 to $120,000 (the compensation offered may vary depending on job‑related knowledge, skills and experience). Key Meetings to Attend Monthly Safety Committee Meetings Foreman Meetings Superintendent Meetings Monthly Operation Meetings Jobs turnover meeting Qualifications / Capabilities Provide leadership and inspire cooperation from Foremen and crews. Strong presentation skills for speaking before small and large groups. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals, and to write routine reports and correspondence. Physically able to negotiate difficult conditions on job sites, including climbing steep stairs, riding in scissor and boom lifts, and working in hot and cold environments, and obtain approvals to walk job sites. Willing to travel to different job sites daily or multiple sites in one day. Required to support field personnel and serve customers on projects, including full‑time presence on site when needed and flexibility in hours and location based on project requirements. Ability to walk and maintain balance on rough, icy, or muddy ground, climb stairs and ladders, work safely at heights, and endure weather exposure for extended periods. Education / Experience Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, related field, 4 years of safety experience in construction, or equivalent education and experience. Certification to teach OSHA 10/30, forklift certification, first aid/CPR, and respiratory fitting required and must be maintained. 2 years experience in Safety.
