Early Childhood Montessori GuideAbout the Role

Brazos Learning Montessori School in Richwood, Texas is seeking an experienced, Montessori-trained Early Childhood Guide to join our team.

Our Early Childhood Guides work with children 3 to 6 years of age in a mixed-age Montessori environment designed to foster independence, concentration, confidence, curiosity, responsibility, and a lifelong love of learning.

We are seeking an educator who understands and respects Montessori philosophy, the prepared environment, observation, the uninterrupted work cycle, and individualized learning. The ideal candidate can lead a classroom with warmth, consistency, professionalism, organization, and clear expectations while respecting each child's independence and developmental needs.

Responsibilities

• Lead and maintain a peaceful, organized, and intentionally prepared Montessori 3–6 environment.
• Present Montessori lessons across Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, Geography, Science, Culture, Art, and Grace & Courtesy .
• Protect and facilitate the uninterrupted Montessori work cycle.
• Observe children and use those observations to plan individual and small-group lessons based on developmental readiness.
• Maintain accurate records of lessons, observations, student progress, and developmental goals.
• Provide appropriate academic extensions for older Early Childhood and Kindergarten-age students.
• Foster independence, concentration, responsibility, self-regulation, and care of the classroom environment.
• Model and reinforce Grace & Courtesy, respectful communication, peaceful conflict resolution, and appropriate classroom boundaries.
• Guide behavior using respectful, developmentally appropriate Montessori practices.
• Maintain active supervision and ensure children's safety at all times.
• Maintain Montessori materials and a clean, complete, beautiful, and inviting prepared environment.
• Communicate professionally and consistently with parents regarding children's progress and development.
• Prepare for and participate in parent conferences, staff meetings, professional development, and school events.
• Collaborate respectfully with classroom assistants, fellow Guides, support staff, and administration.
• Follow all Texas childcare licensing requirements, health and safety standards, and school policies.
• Complete required documentation, training, certifications, and assigned responsibilities by established deadlines.
• Receive and appropriately implement feedback, coaching, and classroom observations from school leadership.

Required Qualifications

• Montessori Early Childhood/Primary training for ages 3–6 is required.
• Montessori credential from a recognized teacher education program is strongly preferred. Candidates actively completing their Montessori credential may be considered.
• Minimum of three (3) years of verifiable professional experience in a licensed preschool, Montessori school, childcare center, private school, or early childhood education setting.
• Previous experience in a Montessori 3–6 classroom is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated understanding of the Montessori 3–6 curriculum, lesson sequences, prepared environment, observation, and recordkeeping.
• Ability to confidently present Montessori materials within Practical Life, Sensorial, Language, Mathematics, and Cultural Studies.
• Must meet all Texas Child Care Regulation background check requirements .
• Current CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain required certification within the school's established timeframe.
• CDA, associate's degree, bachelor's degree, or coursework in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Education, or a related field is preferred.
• Must complete all state-required and school-required professional development and annual training.

Our Early Childhood Guide establishes the culture, rhythm, expectations, and emotional tone of the classroom.

Candidates must demonstrate:

• Strong classroom leadership without relying on yelling, intimidation, punishment, or excessive adult control.
• Patience, emotional maturity, and the ability to remain calm during challenging situations.
• Strong organization, preparation, time management, and follow-through.
• Initiative and the ability to recognize classroom needs without requiring constant direction.
• Professional and respectful communication with children, families, coworkers, and administration.
• Accountability for classroom responsibilities, documentation, communication, training, and deadlines.
• Ability to provide appropriate leadership and guidance to classroom assistants.
• Openness to constructive feedback, coaching, observations, and continued professional growth.
• Respect for school policies, leadership, professional boundaries, and confidentiality.
• Responsible use of personal technology and adherence to school cell phone policies while responsible for children.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for an educator who understands Montessori—not simply someone who has worked in a preschool classroom with Montessori materials.

The successful candidate understands that Montessori requires careful observation, respect for the child, freedom within limits, Grace & Courtesy, individualized instruction, independence, protection of concentration, and a thoughtfully prepared environment.

Our Guide should understand when to present a lesson, redirect, observe, intervene, and when to step back and allow the child to work independently.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone who views early childhood education as a profession and a responsibility . The strongest candidate will be kind with children, respectful with adults, dependable with their team, confident in Montessori practice, receptive to continued growth, and committed to maintaining a peaceful and academically rich classroom.
