Travel PICU RN Job Details

• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,250–$2,370

• Unit Environment: Pediatric intensive care with medical, surgical, neurological, and cardiovascular patient populations

PICU Travel Nurse Requirements

• At least 1 year of recent Registered Nurse experience, including previous Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience
• Active Illinois Registered Nurse license, or confirmation that the Illinois RN license application process has been initiated
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
• Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification from the American Heart Association
• Ability to provide pediatric critical care to patients with complex medical, surgical, neurological, and cardiovascular conditions
• Ability to recognize cardiac rhythm changes and understand appropriate interventions
• Willingness to float to the pediatric intermediate care and lower levels of care as needed
• Successful completion of required screening and orientation processes

Pediatric Intensive Care Nurse Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients in a 16-bed intensive care unit and 16-bed intermediate care area
• Manage patient assignments with typical nurse-to-patient ratios ranging from 1:1 to 1:2
• Assess patients, develop and update individualized care plans, administer medications, and evaluate clinical responses
• Care for pediatric patients requiring ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, high-flow therapy, and other advanced respiratory support
• Recognize changes in patient condition and cardiac rhythms, escalate concerns, and initiate appropriate interventions
• Collaborate with intensivists, advanced practice providers, residents, respiratory therapists, patient care technicians, and other members of the pediatric care team
• Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in Epic
• Support safe transitions of care and float with the full care team when assigned to another pediatric level of care
• Participate in unit orientation lasting approximately three to four 12-hour shifts
