Charge Nurse (LPN) – Glenwood Village Care Center
Wage: $30.00–$33.50/hour based on experience
We are hiring compassionate LPNs to join our care team as Charge Nurses. Enjoy competitive pay, supportive leadership, and generous sign-on bonuses:
PT AM: $2,500
FT PM/NOC: $8,000 | PT PM/NOC: $4,000
(Bonuses paid in four installments over one year.)
Shifts (64–80 hrs/pay period):
AM 6:00–2:30 | PM 2:15–10:45 | NOC 10:30–6:30
ONLY part time AM shift available
Includes every other weekend and holiday.
Differentials: $2 PM | $3 NOC.

Nature of Position
- The Cart Nurse provides professional nursing care consistent with an individual philosophy in accordance with the philosophy, policy, and procedures of the Glenwood Village Care Center and the standards of gerontological nursing practice.
- The Cart Nurse responsibility is to act in the capacity of leadership on a unit under the direction of the Director of Nursing The cart nurse is responsible for the health care needs of the residents and for the supervision or monitoring of the nursing assistants on his / her unit.
- Blood Exposure Risk Category is Category I.
Qualifications
Position Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing as either an RN or LPN.
- Hold a current license in the State of Minnesota. Must maintain current certification in CPR.
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must be able to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.
- Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long term care.
- Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.
- Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, etc.
- Must be able to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing nursing practices.
- Must be able to handle confidential information within guidelines of professional ethics, in accordance with HIPPA.
- Demonstrate leadership or potential leadership ability.
- The cart nurse must be able to meet the following physical requirements to complete duties listed in the job description:
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, crouch, and kneel occasionally.
- Must be able to twist, reach above shoulder height, push/pull wheelchair or cart frequently.
- Must be able to be on their feet for most of their shift as assigned.
- Must be able to push, pull, move or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of 4 feet and be able to push, pull, move or carry such weight a minimum distance of 50 feet.
- Must be able to lift 50-200 pounds occasionally.
- The cart nurse must be able to read and understand handwriting, regular print and directions. Must be able to write in a legible manner. Vision must be appropriate to read regular 10 point print with or without corrective lens.
- Must be able to hear sounds of call lights and resident calls for assistance when the resident is not within their sight.
- Must be able to work independently up to 100% of the time.
- Must be able to work every other weekend, and holidays.
- Must complete Criminal Background check as required to assure qualification for employment.
- Must understand and practice Standard Precautions.
- Must keep up with CEU’s for licensure renewal.
- Must attend 75% of monthly nurses’ meetings in a year.
Qualifications for RN-BSN Cart Nurse
- Must be available during the PM shift, NOC shift, weekends, and holidays and would be responsible for the oversight of the nursing department in the facility.
- Must possess the leadership capabilities of a Charge Nurse.
- Must be able to conduct progressive counseling; including but not limited to education, coaching, conflict resolution, and staff delegation.
- Must be willing to perform continuing education with newly hired nurses.
- Must be willing to mentor CNAs, TMAs, LPNs, and RNs.
- Must utilize critical thinking
- Must fall back on specific training obtained during the BSN program including but not limited to; research methods, statistics, and evidence-based care, critically evaluate new treatments, policies, and procedures after applying them in practice.
- Must make informed clinical decisions, rather than rely solely on protocols or personal experience.
- Must collaborate with other healthcare professionals to consider different viewpoints when problem-solving, promoting a holistic approach to resident care.
- Must be able to question assumptions, analyze alternatives, and assess risks after making clinical judgments.
- Must be educated in ethics, advocacy, and legal responsibilities, which enhances their ability to critically assess complex ethical dilemmas and make informed decisions that align with professional standards.
Job Account abilities:
- Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-departmental personnel, as well as other departments within the facility to ensure that nursing services and activities can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
- Provide resident care services by following Resident’s Plan of Care
- Monitor residents’ health status and nursing needs.
- Implement and evaluate plan of action.
- Evaluate health and resident care services:
- Consult with physician and other health professional as needed to meet the needs of the residents.
- Transcribe MD orders and follow through with informing all areas appropriately of new order.
- Provide leadership for nursing team members:
- Direct and monitor the day-to-day functions of the NA/R’s in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
- Assist nursing personnel to learn new nursing care policies, procedures, and concepts of care.
- Collaborate with the Director of Health Care, Clinical Managers, resident’s families, and community agencies to coordinate care from admission through discharge.
- Develop and maintain effective communication & cooperation with inter-departmental personnel, as well as other departments within the facility to ensure that nursing services and activities can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
- Make daily rounds of your unit/shifts to ensure that nursing service personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards. Report problem areas to the Clinical Manager.
- Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the unit and shift.
- Provide other nursing leadership functions as delegated by the Director of Nursing.
- Assist with the evaluation of nursing personnel to assure that quality care is provided to all residents.
- Maintain safe methods of drug distribution to residents on nursing station where she/he is assigned.
- Monitor nursing care for each resident consistent with the standards of nursing service.
- Maintain good personal hygiene, grooming, and appropriate dress.
- Follow established bowel and bladder program.
- Monitor and promote skin care procedures.
- Administer treatments and special tests, as directed by medical plan.
- Administer medications as ordered in the medical plan.
- Admit, discharge, transfer of residents.
- Maintain accurate and complete medical records.
- Report all discrepancies noted concerning residents care to case manager.
- Develop knowledge and understanding of the philosophy of rehabilitative nursing and demonstrate and implement special techniques used in rehabilitation.
- Promote activity and exercise for the resident.
- Prevent hazards of immobility.
- Assist resident to meet psychological and sociological needs.
- Understand attitudes needed to work with the chronically ill and geriatric persons.
- Understand and implement Resident’s Bill of Rights, ensure staff follow Bill of Rights.
- Understand and perform nursing functions in relationship to environmental care.
- Maintain a clean environment for the resident. Follow proper infection control practices in all aspects of work.
- Recognize safety responsibilities of employee for the resident. Report occupational hazards and/or incidents of injury, to appropriate personnel, in accordance with facility policy and procedures.
- Recognize employee’s responsibility for his / her own safety while on the job and for the safety of others.
- Recognize and remove environmental dangers.
- Complete maintenance service request slips for equipment in need of repairs. Include date, time and signature on your request.
- Apply principles of good body mechanics when lifting and moving objects.
- Use transfer techniques consistent with proper body mechanics.
- Use safety devices and transfer belts, when appropriate, and implement their use.
- Develop knowledge of actions to be implemented in emergency situations.
- Practice fire safety and accident prevention procedures.
- Participate in disaster planning drills (fire, tornado, severe weather, etc.) when on duty.
- Maintain calm manner in tense situations.
- Maintain awareness and adhere to policy and procedures governing the operation of Glenwood Village Care Center.
- Attend orientation and receive instruction regarding nursing department duties.
- Attend general orientation and assigned in service education programs
- Understand use of nursing procedure manual.
- Demonstrate dependable professional work habits.
- Adhere to requirements set forth in personnel policy manual.
- Report absences, according to policy.
- Come to work on time and when scheduled.
- Make suggestions, complaints, or grievances in a constructive manner.
- Handle work related situations regarding staff with confidentiality.
- Maintain good personal hygiene and grooming.
- Come to work clean and neat.
- Wear proper uniform. Scrub uniforms should be worn. Jeans may be worn on Fridays per personnel policy manual.
- No open toes shoes are allowed for direct care givers.
- Keep updated on new developments in geriatrics and gerontological nursing through continuing education and individual study.
Attend and participate in continuing education programs designed to keep you abreast of changes in your profession, as well as to maintain your license on a current status.
