Substitute Custodian

Position Summary: Responsible for maintaining the overall cleanliness of the school or facility, including all cleaning and sanitizing, minor repairs, and general maintenance. Develops and promotes good community relations among various community and school clientele.

Typical Responsibilities:

  • Cleans assigned areas of the facility, including classrooms, hallways, rest rooms and common areas.
  • Vacuums and cleans floors.
  • Removes trash.
  • Performs general maintenance tasks related to the upkeep and operation of the facility.
  • Sees to the general security of the facility during regular shift.
  • Maintains outside areas of the facility, including parking lots and grounds, may perform snow removal.
  • May assist with student supervision in some situations.
  • During summer months perform total cleaning and general maintenance of building; may be assigned to crew for general district projects in maintenance or construction.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Observes all district policies and procedures.

Essential Environmental Demands: Some dirt and dust, some odors and fumes, some hazardous materials, some temperature extremes. All buildings/grounds in District Re-1 are tobacco free.

Essential Physical Demands:

  • Constant lifting 5 to 20 pounds
  • Frequent lifting 20 to over 50 pounds
  • Constant standing, walking
  • Frequent bending, reaching, squatting, climbing, kneeling.
  • Occasional crawling, sitting, stooping.

Supervisory Duties: None

Reports to: Principal and Director of Facilities

Candidate Profile

Education and Certification: - High School diploma (Preferred)

Experience and Skills: Cleaning equipment and machinesSome knowledge of maintenance and repairSome knowledge and use of handling cleaning chemicalsAbility to understand and follow oral and written instructions.Flexible and maintain a positive attitude.Work cooperatively with supervisors and coworkers
